Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone (Black)
Get a professional podcast sound with audio interfaces, hard disk recorders, or direct to computers and mobile devices with the Shure MV7 Podcast Mic, styled here in black. This is a high-quality, broadcast-style dynamic microphone, one that has both a conventional XLR connection and a USB port.
The Shure MV7 fulfills the needs of anyone who demands a broadcast-quality sound from their podcast microphone, no matter the setup: whether you work with an audio interface, or prefer to record directly into your computer over USB, this microphone will do the job. The mic offers a clear and present sound, extensive controls, rugged accessories, and seamless integration with the free ShurePlus MOTIV Desktop App for convenient effects right out of the gate.
This microphone is part of the B&H Virtual Mic Locker, an online tool to help our valued customers determine the sonic differences between popular microphones for podcasting and voice over work. Each microphone was recorded using a Grace Design M103 preamp into a Presonus Quantum 2626 interface.
Legendary Broadcast Sound
The mic takes its design and sonic cues from the Shure SM7B, a classic used on countless podcasts and radio broadcasts. Use the mic in close proximity to your voice and you'll find it exhibits a clear, intelligible, and high-quality sound. Optimized frequency response for rich and natural vocal reproduction
Works with Your Analog or Digital Setup
Thanks to its multiple outputs, you can use this mic with nearly any podcasting setup. The mic works with your audio interface, field recorder, mixer, or computer (over USB Mini-B) as well as select Android devices and select iOS devices. The device is also MFi-certified, however, please note this product does not currently support iPad USB-C connectivity.
Rugged Appointments for Sound and Use
Like the SM7B, the MV7 has a built-in pop filter to protect against plosives and p-pops, greatly simplifying your editing process. With its built-in ready-to-mount yoke, the mic offers a build quality that is rugged, with an all-metal construction for reliability in mission-critical circumstances.
Unidirectional Polar Pattern for the Untreated Room
The mic features a unidirectional cardioid polar pattern, which is the best natural defense against room noise: since the capsule mostly captures what's directly in front of it, you won't pick up as much room noise as you would with another polar pattern. Depending on your particular room, you may still need a little room treatment, or some noise-reduction software, to address issues such as your computer's hum or your air conditioner—but the chances of that are markedly lower with a cardioid polar pattern.
Integrated Controls & High-Quality USB Audio
On the USB side, the mic provides broadcast-quality specs and intuitive functionality. Capture audio at sample rates and resolutions up to 48 kHz / 24-bit, which is the standard for editing and mixing broadcast audio. Use the integrated touch-panel interface on the mic itself to control levels, headphone volumes, monitor mix, and mic-mute.
Built-In 3.5mm Headphone Monitoring with Mix Control
The mic offers a headphone jack for monitoring. Just plug a pair of headphones into the MV7's 3.5mm jack, and you'll be able to listen to your high-quality audio in all its glory. In addition to its touch-panel control surface, the mic gives you a blend knob, which comes in handy for recording music: you can use it to adjust the balance between your mic's pickup and any pre-recorded audio.
USB Connection Right Out of the Box
Two cables are included, one a USB Mini-B to USB-A, the other a USB Mini-B to USB-C.
Included Software to Make Recording Easier
The free ShurePlus MOTIV Desktop Application will let you save your own presets, enable auto-level, compression, limiting, and EQ the signal, and more. DSP modes allow you to tweak the sound on the way in.

What is the thread size on the mount connection? Will it fit with Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand?
Asked by: Hunter
The Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone has a yoke mount with a 5/8" thread, which is the same thread size as the Auray MS-5230T Tripod Microphone Stand, so they are directly compatible for use together.

is there a shock mount that will work with the MV7? and what is the best pop filter to use with it?
Asked by: Matthew
I use the windscreen on my SM7B (the thin one) and it works much better but I still have breathing and plosive issues (Ps Ts Ss) all can be a problem but yeah I like the SM7B windscreen (thin not thick) and IMO it sounds superior to the SM7B.

why is the silver version cheaper than the black one?
Asked by: Andrew
B&H priced it that way, but silver and black are the same microphones just a different color. Black is more popular thats why price is a little higher. Hope this helps.

If I want to use the MV7 with the Zoom H6 would I need a cloudlifter?
Asked by: andrew
A Cloudlifter is recommended, as this Mic has low sensitivity and requires a lot of gain, which may increase noise. It does depend on the Mic Pre; see below. At a sensitivity of -55 dBv, the Shure MV7 would require 55dB of gain to achieve the same level as what is "heard" by MV7 diaphram. As an example, a Focusrite Solo has Mic Pre gain of: "Up to" +56 dB this means the Mic Pre Gain would have to be fully cranked to achieve unity gain. Please note that the higher the negative dBV, the lower the sensitivity. That is, a mic with a sensitivity of -56dBV is less sensitive than a mic with a sensitivity of -38dBV, but more sensitive than a mic with a sensitivity of -65dBV. A more logical way to look at it is to think about how much gain will be required to amplify the test signal up to a level of one volt (One Volt is the "Unity Gain" number), the level as supplied "Into" the microphone.

I need to have a 3.5 mm connection (to a camera). What cable/adapter do I need?
Asked by: William
While it is possible to connect this mic to the 3.5mm input on a camera with this cable, BH #KOXRSM06B, the preamp of the camera would not do a great job of amplifying the signal and could introduction unwanted noise into the recording. We would recommend using a mixer/ recorder in between the mic and camera to give you a stronger mic preamp for a cleaner signal into the camera. Here's a recommendation, BH# TADR60DMKIIK.

Is the USB bidirectional - e.g. can I hear other participants on ZOOM using just this device ? (I normally use an RME firewire Interface with 2 way audio and XLR mics)

The rear of the mic has a headphone jack that provides PC audio when connected to a PC. I am not familiar with your hardware, but hopefully, that helps you.

What are the benefits of connecting it via XLR (to an audio interface) vs connecting it to the computer via USB?
Asked by: Elazar
Using the Shure MV7 Podcast Microphone's XLR output connection allows for customizing your signal chain for use with an interface of your choice and a clean recording of the microphone's audio signal. The advantage of the USB connection is the elimination of an external interface and direct connection to a computer for recording.
