Key Features
  • Full-Frame | f/6.3-9 to f/54
  • Nano USM Motor
  • Focus/Control Ring & Two L-Fn Buttons
  • Optical Image Stabilizer
Distinguishing itself with an expansive and unique zoom range, the RF 200-800mm f/6.3-9 IS USM Lens from Canon provides superb optical performance while maintaining mobility. Its compact design is complemented by five and half stops of image stabilization to enable strong handheld performance. This lens provides a zoom range that excels in situations where you can't get closer to your subject without compromising your shot, such as wildlife, nature, and outdoors sports. Swift and nearly silent autofocusing is achieved through Canon's Nano USM drive system. A focus/control ring and two lens function buttons that are located on the barrel allow for greater control over settings adjustments. Also incorporated are three ultra-low dispersion elements to reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations as well as a Super Spectra coating to minimize ghosting and flare caused by lens surface reflection.

In the past, I’ve used the EF Extender EF 1.4X III EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens, will this capture the moon better?
Asked by: Ralph
Be aware though that with such a long lens, the motion of the moon across the coverage of the lens will require a shorter exposure time to achieve a sharp image. This is a considerably slower lens, so you'll have to boost your ISO much more than with the 100-400 full extended.

Will it work with teleconverters without limitations?
Asked by: Jay
In addition to decreasing the aperture, you also loose some autofocus coverage, similar to the way the 600 and 800 f11 primes don't have full autofocus coverage. Per Gordon at camera labs, you get 90x100 percent autofocus coverage with the 1.4 times teleconverter and 40x60 percent autofoucs coverage with the 2 times teleconverter
