Sirui Saturn 35mm T2.9 1.6x Carbon Fiber Full-Frame Anamorphic Lens (E Mount, Neutral Flare)

The Sony E-mount Saturn 35mm T2.9 1.6x Carbon Fiber Anamorphic Lens from Sirui provides a classic anamorphic look in a compact, lightweight form. Ideal for gimbal, stabilizer, drone, and handheld use, this lens produces a wider look equivalent to a 22mm spherical full-frame field of view. It measures only 4" in length and features a carbon fiber barrel that reduces the weight of the lens. The lens produces horizontal neutral streaks when pointed at a light source, giving your footage a classic anamorphic look.

An image captured in 16:9 is de-squeezed to an anamorphic 2.8:1 aspect ratio, whereas shooting in 3:2 yields a 2.4:1 final image. The T2.9 aperture produces a shallow depth of field, separating your subject from the foreground and the 10-blade aperture creates oval bokeh effects.

Full-Frame Coverage
  • The lens provides sensor coverage for up to full-frame cameras.
  • Aspherical elements eliminate chromatic aberration.
Lightweight Design
  • This Saturn-series lens is made with a carbon fiber front barrel that reduces the overall weight while remaining durable.
  • The compact, lightweight design is ideal for handheld, gimbal, and stabilizer use.
Anamorphic Design
  • Horizontal neutral streak effects create a classic anamorphic look.
  • 10 aperture blades produce oval bokeh effects.
Constant 1.6x Squeeze
  • The 35mm Saturn lens maintains a constant 1.6x squeeze ratio at all focusing points, ensuring that the subject size doesn't change as you pull the focus.

Sirui SATURN Anamorphic 3-Lens Kit Reviews

Insane for the price

The other review mentions the lenses are soft....Well, you're buying 3 anamorphic lenses, built in carbon fiber, for less than $3K. What exactly do you expect? I pair these with a DJI ronin 4D, and in my camera I turn my sharpness all the way down, I hate the digital look. When these lenses are paired with the right color grade - you can pull of some shots that are in the ballpark much (much) more expensive stuff. I would NOT recommend these for high end commercial work - but if you're looking for something to make some extremely cinematic imagery on the Ronin - I I would NOT recommend these for high-end commercial work - but if you're looking for something to make some extremely cinematic imagery on the Ronin - I don’t know what else you'd buy at this price range. know what else you'd buy at this price range. If you're trying to pull off something big with no manpower - pair these with a Ronin and the focus puller accessory. It's flawless, and even the autofocus with these manual lenses are pretty impressive.

I bought these lenses because of so many excellent YouTube reviews, but I was extremely underwhelmed after they arrived. The lenses are soft across the entire frame at lower apertures, so don't expect to see the lauded oval bokeh with the 35mm or the 50mm unless you are okey with a blurry image. Oh, by the way, the 35mm is really an 18, the 50mm is a 35, and the 75mm is a 50mm. The 75mm lens is the best of the bunch, as the other two exhibit such extreme pincushion distortion I find them unusable. The issue with the distortion is it isn't possible to correct it in post without losing significant portions of your image. Arguably it would be fine if you could center your subject every time and get close, but the very long minimum focus distance of these lenses also makes this difficult. These lenses also exhibit significant focus breathing, so calling them cinema lenses is completely untrue. The only reason I'm not rating them 1 star is because they flaring looks quite nice, especially on the Natural version. All in all, completely avoid the 35 and 50. Maybe buy the 75 if you want to shoot subject centered portraits with light sources behind your subject. and don't care about sharpness at all. But realistically avoid it, buy a vintage 50mm, and crop it to a cinemascope aspect ratio in post for a much cleaner result.

Is the effective focal length consistent if used on a full-frame sensor?

Yes, the Sirui Saturn T2.9 1.6x Carbon Fiber Full-Frame Anamorphic 3-Lens Set would maintain the 35, 50, and 75 mm view for each lens since there is no crop factor on full-frame cameras.
