Empress Effects PEQD Overview

Improving upon everything that made the original ParaEq great, the ParaEq MKII Deluxe from Empress Effects is a 3-band parametric EQ pedal designed to be a tool for sweetening tone, enhancing distortion, and eliminating feedback. With three variable-EQ bands and variable-Q adjustment, you get unparalleled control in a compact form factor.

Each band offers ±15 dB of gain control, as well as fully variable and sweepable frequency selection and bandwidth. An adjustable clean boost with a dedicated footswitch allows you to provide more gain before an FX chain or drive the input of a tube amp. With an internal operating voltage of 27V, close to that of rack-mounted equipment, you get significant headroom and clarity regardless of gain levels. And with selectable true or buffered bypass, you can choose between tonal purity (true bypass) or warmth, and signal integrity over long and complex cable runs (buffered bypass).

Why Choose Parametric over Graphic EQ?
While graphic EQs provide a convenient visual sense of equalization, there is a tradeoff in transparency and precision. In situations where a graphic EQ will shift the entire frequency spectrum to boost a particular frequency, a parametric EQ offers far greater precision in boosts and cuts.

Similarly, these wide shifts produced by graphic EQs also tend to attenuate frequencies that parametric EQs keep unchanged. This is why professional studios, and most creatives, prefer parametric EQs.

Frequency Controls
  • Fully variable- and sweepable-Q control on each band for Narrow (equal to a Q of 4, or 1/3 octave), Medium (a Q of 2.5, affecting 2/3 octave), and Wide (a Q of 1, affecting 1.5 octaves), as well as inbetween settings
  • Low-frequency control sweeps between 35 and 500 Hz
  • Mid-frequency control from 250 Hz to 5 kHz
  • High-frequency knob sweeps from 1 kHz to 20 kHz
  • ±15 dB gain control on each band
Minimal Circuity Topology
Unlike graphic EQs, the parametric EQ in ParaEq MKII Deluxe utilizes a minimum of circuitry, resulting in a pure and clean tone that avoids degradation. The gain boosting and tone sculpting not only work great on guitars, they can also elevate synths as well, making ParaEq MKII Deluxe a vital tool in any home studio.
