CineStill Film CS-LITE-V1 Overview

The CS-Lite Camera Scanning Light Source with CS-Litemask from CineStill Film is a compact and cool-running LED panel designed for using a digital camera to create files from traditional color negative film, black and white negative film, and transparencies of any type. It is suitable for use with 35mm and medium-format films. It features a bright light source with a high 95+ CRI rating and has selectable color temperature modes to suit individual film types.

The included CS-LiteMask set is a 2-piece universal film carrier mask set that pairs with existing film carriers from manufactures like Negative Supply, VALOI, Lomography, and more. Masking around the edges of the film carrier helps to eliminate spill light, reducing unwanted glare and maintaining uniformity across the entirety of scans.

  • 5V/1.6A USB Power LED light panel
  • USB power cord with integrated controller
  • Cool operation

  • CRI 95 + | EV 15 + (approx 700 Lux at 1.6 ft)
  • 1/4"-20 threaded mount
Cool Light Mode for Color Negative Film Scanning
Cool Light mode is designed to counterbalance the orange base present in color negative film, allowing scans to be made with a neutral color tone. Color balanced captures result in superior color separation with less noise due to excessive gain produced when shifting color temperature below 2800K in a raw file. It may also be used to scan images taken on daylight slide film taken under incandescent light to reduce the orange cast.
White Light Mode for Black & White Film Scanning
White Light mode is for scanning black and white negatives and transparencies. It can also be used to scan color negative film for post-processing workflows based on white-light scanning.
Warm Light Mode for Slide Film Scanning
Warm Light mode can be used for scanning slide film, which is designed to be viewed with a tungsten balanced backlight. This setting also produces richer tones and enhanced color separation, especially in the red channel.

CineStill Film CS-LITE-V1 Reviews

Nice Light Source

Very bright and the illumination is uniform. I like the adjustable temp settings. The cord is very long which is a plus. I do wish that the cord was detachable from the light box and It would be nice if they had an USB-C option.

Great Light for the price!

I bought the light to use in conjunction with the ES-2. The light provides EV 15, as measured on my handheld meter, with the intensifier sheets in place. I have been using the warm setting on the light, and set my Z5 to 3200k. The range of the settings by manufacturer are 3200K - 9000k. The colors on my 43 year old Kodachrome 64 slides are spot on. Really impressed by this little light. I mounted mine on one of my strobe light tripods. I do have to place a little tap at the top and bottom of the light to keep the mask in place with it mounted vertically, this keeps the intensifier sheets flat and not falling out. It's a bargain at the $35 price and $20 for the sheets, get them both!

Will it work with the Negative Supply Film Carrier?
Asked by: Lewes
I use it with the Negative Supply Basic 35mm Film Carrier Mk II. I just use both of the included masks and place the Carrier on top of them. Been quite pleased with the results.
