Heritage Audio Herchild has established iteself as the industry and world reference for the Vari-Mu Fairchild tube-based compression. Now, with the Herchild Model 670 The Ardent Edition, you can experience the legendary sound of Ardent Studios, with modified attack and release times to perfectly match Ardent's original units—first used to track Jimmy Page's acoustic guitars on Led Zeppelin III. The Model 670 features 22 tubes and 9 transformers to ensure the absolute highest quality possible. This two-channel compressor offers four modes of operation. Either use each channel separately or linked together (stereo). The LAT/VERT and LAT/VERT Link modes make mid/side processing possible.
While remaining true to the original in terms of response and sound, the Model 670 offers new practical features for today's production workflow including direct access to the continuously variable slope control (DC Threshold) and a side-chain filter (SC Filter). The Herchild Model 670 The Ardent Edition will be produced only on request, in an ultra-limited edition, hand-made in Heritage Audio's factory in Madrid, Spain.
- For almost 60 years, Ardent Studio has been a special creative space for a diverse and world-renowned clientele of recording artists such as Led Zeppelin, Sam and Dave, ZZ Top, R.E.M., Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, Stevie Ray Vaughan, BB King, The Bar-Kays, The White Stripes, Big Star, Bob Dylan, The Raconteurs, The Gin Blossoms, Stevie Wonder, Steve Earle, Smashing Pumpkins, and The Allman Brothers, to name a few.
- It's been home to a wide range of unique and talented producers and engineers and has witnessed the creation of many timeless recordings that have influenced the direction of modern music and music production.
- Ardent’s team modified the attack and release times of their original Fairchild units in the early '70s, so that the time constants were faster and therefore more usable for modern recording studios at the time.
- After receiving the pencil-on-paper notes from the original modifications, the Heritage Audio team has worked together with Ardent to acurately replicate the time constants of the original.
- A faithful reproduction of the original, the Herchild Model 670 is packed with 22 tubes and 9 transformers. It operates at a very high voltage and uses only the best components to deliver the utmost quality possible.
- This is immediately recognized during use, as there are no audible thumps produced. And with extremely low distortion and noise, this compressor is perfect for mixing and mastering duties.
- Direct access to the continuously variable slope control (DC Threshold). On the original, this control was only available via an inconvenient screw adjustment hidden from immediate access.
- LAT/VERT mode makes mid/side processing possible.
- Side-chain filter with four different frequencies to choose from, to precisely tailor your compression.
