In regard to its optical performance, this lens employs one fluorite element and two ultra-low dispersion elements, which work in concert to suppress chromatic aberrations and color fringing for notable clarity and color accuracy. A Super Spectra coating has also been applied to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast when working in harsh lighting. Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Overview

A flexible zoom distinguished by its relatively lightweight and compact design, the EF 70-200mm f/4L USM is a Canon L-series optic spanning a useful portrait-length to medium telephoto range. The constant f/4 maximum aperture allows you to maintain a consistent exposure throughout the zoom range and also contributes to the sleeker form factor when compared to other 70-200mm lenses. Complementing the optical attributes, this lens also features a ring-type USM and internal focusing mechanism for quick, quiet, and accurate autofocus performance, as well as full-time manual focus override.

Versatile telephoto zoom is designed for full-frame Canon EF-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 112-320mm equivalent focal length range.
Constant f/4 maximum aperture affords consistent performance throughout the zoom range and also contributes to the relatively lightweight design and compact form factor.
One fluorite element and two ultra-low dispersion glass elements noticeably reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations for high clarity and color fidelity.
Super Spectra coating has been applied to individual elements to minimize ghosting and flare for greater contrast and color neutrality when working in strong lighting conditions.
A ring-type Ultrasonic Motor (USM), along with an internal focusing system, is employed to deliver fast, precise, and quiet autofocus performance as well as full-time manual focus override.
Focus Limiter switch lets you constrain the focusing to two different ranges to suit different applications: 3.9'-infinity or 9.8'-infinity.
Rounded eight-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.
As a member of the esteemed L-series, this lens is sealed against dust and moisture for working in inclement environmental conditions.
Optional rotating tripod collar is available and benefits working with the lens atop a tripod or monopod.
Compatible with optional EF 1.4X and EF 2X teleconverters.

Very nice addition for my new full frame camera. Make note, this one does not come with image stablilization, but I chose this one because of the drastic price difference. Nice Lens.

Great value 70-200mm!!

I am using this lens on a Sony A7IV, with a Sigma MC-11 adapter. If you are using a camera body with image stabilization, I feel this is one of the best bang for the buck 70-200mm lenses you can get (with a few caveats..). With the sigma mc-11 the stills auto focus works quite well, even using the eye auto focus (at least with my A7IV, have not tested on other cameras). If you are in really low light it will hunt around and have a little trouble. I use this primarily for landscape photography, so the slightly slower auto focus does not bother me. It's also fairly easy to manually focus if the AF is having trouble locking on. If you are wanting auto focus in video mode, on the Sony body anyway, you would need to buy something else as it does not work at all (at least currently, for me - with the mc-11 adapter. it might work with other adapters, or maybe a future firmware update on the mc11 - but I'm not counting on it). Compared to Sony's own 70-200mm F4 (which has questionable build quality..?) This Canon is arguably sharper at most focal lengths and you can get this lens plus the mc-11 adapter for around half the price of the Sony lens. Pros: Great image quality, sharpness, color/contrast, etc. Very good build quality Great value (if it works for your needs) Cons: Slow and somewhat noisy AF (compared to most modern lenses) No video AF - (with my camera and adapter, see above) No image stabilization (more versatile on body with IBIS) (a7 IV, ILCE-7M4, mc11)

I made a mistake in purchasing this lense without any understanding of what Grey Market products are. Canon's web site explained that these products are not recognized by Canon. And warn of potential problems with Grey Market devices. So if this goes bad I just wasted $600.

Is this lense good for wildlife?
Asked by: Ricardo
It’s a good entry into wildlife although I would say you will find it to not give you the range you think it would. Something like a 150-600 will definitely give you more range and allow for more detailed tighter shots.

Are the optical elements in this lens identical to the f/4 IS version except for the IS feature?
Asked by: Terry
No. Different optical elements and the IS version is considered sharper although I have the non IS version and it is a very sharp lens.

question

does this fit on a 70D?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes. Just keep in mind the 1.6x crop factor using a camera that has the APC-S sized sensor (like your 70D). In terms of 35mm, this means the 70-200mm will have a 112-320mm perspective on your camera (not a bad thing at all).

How well does this pair with the Sigma 18-35mm for the bmpcc6k?
Asked by: Isaac
Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Lens will complement your camera equipment since your current lens only offers a wide-angle of view. Please keep in mind that telephoto lenses have a more visual vibration compare to wide-angle lenses. Therefore we recommend some sort of stabilization system when using non-IS lenses on cinema cameras.

question

Does this Lens come with a USA warranty?
Asked by: Anonymous
In situations where B&H offers both a USA and an imported version of a product, we label each version clearly and explicitly. If a product does not have an indication either way, it is understood to be by default a USA product. In situations where only a USA version is offered it will not be labeled USA. This is a Canon USA lens.
