The LP-E6P is a 7.2V battery and works with my 5DSR and 7D. 7.2V is also confirmed by the enclosed spec sheet. I bought it in case I ever buy a mirrorless camera that pulls more current. The original E6 batteries still work great in the older cameras, and their price offsets the slight 18% increase in capacity for the E6P. However, the E6N and E6NH have terrible recharge performance compared to the old E6.

having owned other Canon bodies I am finding the longevity in a shoot with this new battery a definite improvement in life.

According to the Canon website, "Despite having the same capacity [as the LP-E6NH], the LP-E6P has a higher maximum continuous discharge current of 6 A, allowing for higher performance and functionality" in the R5 II and newer cameras. There is no information as to whether battery life is better.

Is this battery compatible with the R5 mark 1?

It works in my R5, which just came back from Canon service 2 weeks ago. I checked the firmware in the menu and it is 2.0.0. which was released March 26 2024. They probably updated the firmware while they had it in service

Rob is incorrect. It is 7.2V 2130 mAH as stamped on the battery and on the enclosed spec sheet.

With a new firmware update in December, 2024, the Canon LP-E6P Lithium-Ion Battery will enable the EOS R5 C to record 8K 60P internally, without the need for an external power supply.

The Canon LP-E6P Lithium-Ion Battery is compatible with the R5 assuming you have the latest firmware. However according to Canon, there is no significant benefit over the LP-E6NH other than more power output which the R5 does not need.
