Canon CF-R20EP Overview

Dedicated to the Canon EOS R5 Mark II mirrorless camera, the CF-R20EP Battery Grip with Cooling Fan & Ethernet features a multispeed fan to keep the camera cool in challenging video production situations and extend capture times of up to more than 120 minutes of movie recording at 8K 30p.

Within the camera menu, the fan can be set to be off, always on, or on only in standby mode. Three fan speed levels can also be selected. It also features a 2.5G Base-T high speed ethernet port for fast-paced tethered shooting, FTP transfer, remote shooting via EOS Utility, and other operations. The ethernet connection allows you to quickly transmit large numbers of still photos and videos from event venues to editorial offices via its stable wired connection, especially when operating in Dual Shooting mode.

The grip's design accommodates two LP-E6P batteries to effectively double battery life. Additionally, the extended design of the grip facilitates a more stable hold and has the same weather-resistant construction as the camera body for use in wet or dusty conditions.

Canon CF-R20EP Reviews

Works like a charm

The grip works nicely as designed. I did not use for scenarios like a 70-200 lens or on a monopod but it seems convenient enough in most settings and the camera is not prohibitively bulky. I prefer the reliability over long shoots and it delivers.

If you need it you need it, but it should have been better.

The first time I turned on my camera in stills mode with the grip on, and the fan spooled up, and I said Why?, and I had to look into the menu for the fan setting to set it to auto, and realized there was no auto, and that I would have to dig into the menu every time I wanted to turn the fan on and off, and that if I started a video without the fan on and the camera started to heat up, I would have to stop that recording and find this menu and turn the fan on manually and then start the recording again... I think I wore out the word Why. One last: Why does a product this simple, barely functional, and unfortunately necessary, cost $400? Reviewed 12/11/2024, hopefully a firmware upadate can make this work like as well as the fan that comes for free in any other camera that needs it.

Can you use a 'Canon AC-E6N AC Adapter and DC Coupler DR-E6 Kit' with the CF-R20EP Battery Grip with Cooling Fan?
Asked by: Steve
According to Canon, the Canon CF-R20EP Battery Grip with Cooling Fan and Ethernet can work with the Canon AC-E6N AC Adapter and DC Coupler DR-E6 Kit, but it has limitations as shown below: With the Canon AC-E6N AC Adapter, the limitations are no network connectivity (Wi-Fi/wired LAN), it reduces continuous shooting speed and prevents selection of 8K DCI/8K UHD/RAW/SRAW movie recording size, fine image quality, and 239.76/200.00/119.88/100.00/59.94/50.00 fps frame rates, and HDMI RAW output, still photo shooting during movie recording, high frame rate movies, and pre-continuous shooting are not available. The cooling fan cannot be used.

What control buttons are on the CF-R20EP?
Asked by: jim
The Canon CF-R20EP Battery Grip with Cooling Fan & Ethernet does not really have control buttons. It has LED lights on the back that let you know if the fan is on, if it is connected via LAN, and which of the two batteries are charging.

Will the fan work in photo mode, not just video mode like the R5c?
Asked by: Josh
Fan will NOT work with either battery slot occupied by an old battery. Fan will work single new battery and other battery slot empty, but will NOT work with new battery in one slot and old battery in other slot. Yes this is dumb.
