Synology DS925+ Overview

The DS925+ 4-Bay NAS Enclosure from Synology is a capable solution that can adapt to growing storage demands, with support for up to nine drives with an optional expansion unit, two NVMe M.2 2280 slots for SSD caching, two built in 2.5GbE ports. Powered by Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM), it offers a flexible all-in-one solution for data sharing, synchronization, backup, and surveillance. The DS925+ is equipped with four drive bays that are capable of natively supporting 3.5" SATA III hard drives as well as 2.5" SATA III hard drives and SSDs.

The DS925+ runs on Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) OS, which is a browser-based operating system that helps to simplify managing your Synology NAS. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD is also available, allowing each drive bay to be individually utilized.

The DS925+ is engineered to be energy efficient and its dual 92mm fans to help keep the system running cool at all times. The server supports numerous scheduled power on/off cycles and hard drive hibernation to further minimize power consumption and operation expenses.

Synology DS925+ Reviews

Easy storage and simple compute setup!

I recently picked up the Synology DS925+ and have been very happy with it so far. I’m using it both as my main storage solution and to run Home Assistant, and it has handled both roles really well. Setup was straightforward, DSM is polished and easy to manage, and the system feels reliable without needing much babysitting. For storage, it gives me exactly what I wanted: centralized files, backups, and room to grow. Running Home Assistant on it has also been smooth, which was one of the main reasons I chose this model. The 925 feels like a good balance between power, flexibility, and simplicity. It is probably more than someone needs for basic file storage, but if you want a NAS that can also run services like Home Assistant, it is a strong choice. I’d recommend it for anyone who wants dependable home storage with enough headroom for more advanced uses.

The Synology DS925+ 4-Bay NAS Enclosure, BH # SYDS925P, can use 3.5" or 2.5" drives in the drive bays for storage and NVMe SSDs for caching, but all three are not required at once.

There is some confusion around what hard drives this device accepts, e.g., Synology branded versus third party. Details?

The website now states they will accept third party with possible warranty limitations. Look for the enterprise versions of the Synology HDD, they have closer specs to the best competitor.

The Synology DS925+ 4-Bay NAS Enclosure and other 2025 enclosures from Synology no longer restrict third party drives with the latest firmware update. Still, the Synology compatibility guide only recommends and verifies Synology branded drives at this time.
