Providing classic compression controls along with less common features, the Chameleon Labs 7721 is an analog VCA compressor with stereo XLR I/O and a side-chain input for utilizing a secondary trigger source. With selectable peak or RMS detection modes, you can engage in either rapid (peak) or averaged (RMS) reaction to handle virtually any signal type, from instruments to whole mixes.
The 7721 features a selectable 24 dB per octave high-pass filter with an adjustable filter point from 20 to 200 Hz. Controls include typical threshold, attack, and release controls, as well as gain ratio, blend (for internal parallel processing), and soft or hard knee compression selection. The custom VU meter monitors input, output, and gain reduction levels. The output stage is fully balanced. With an internal universal switching power supply, this compressor is compatible with all international power sources. The 7721 is designed and built in North America.
- Side-Chain: engages the 20 to 200 Hz 24 dB per octave high-pass filter, which only feeds the detector circuit (not your audio path), letting more bottom end through while controlling the mid and upper energy to make hip-hop, rock, and EDM pulse.
- Dry/wet blend: lets you mix the original signal with the compressed signal for instant parallel-like processing. This will preserve the transients, while simultaneously taming the track.
- Soft/Hard Knee: lets you switch between a gentler compression onset and a faster onset more akin to limiting.
