Humvee by CampCo HMV-VS-K-M overview

  • 1Description

The medium khaki Safari Photo Vest from CampCo is a 100% cotton vest that has 21 pockets, ranging in size from pen sized to oversized. The vented back and mesh liner allow free movement of air around the body. The snap epaulets will keep the camera, binoculars, or tote bag straps on the shoulder. The vest has a heavy-duty zipper that will close the entire front. It also has a single snap closure for the front and two snap adjustments for the sides. The vest is built oversized to accommodate fully filled pockets.

The Safari vest has a large pocket at the bottom back with two snaps; inside there is a large lined pocket that will keep sweat or rain from dampening papers. There are slash pockets on either side of the vest. On the right side from the top down, a shirt sized, bellows pocket with "hook & loop" fastening with two 'D' rings and a vertical zipper pocket with water resistant lining. A set of three pockets, one over the other with the smallest being net is closed with a "hook & clamp" loop, suitable for film or batteries, filters, lenses etc.

Humvee by CampCo HMV-VS-K-M reviews

Safari Photo Vest (Medium, Khaki) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 90.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent buy! I picked up this safari photo vest to use ring a visit to a dry, deciduous jungle in India. The jacket (khaki) blended in so well with the rest of the surroundings. It was very functional and useful as well in that it had ample space/pockets to keep amongst other things a bottle of water, 2 canon converters (1.4 and 2x) and 4 CF cards. I could also keep a screw for my tripod clamp and a couple of restraining buckles - all of these being reachable without hassles. It also has good quality Velcro and zippers to hold everything in place. Overall, really enjoyed using this product and would recommend for any serious wildlife photography buff!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Photo vest works well I bought this to carry a second lens and to have a place to store my cell phone while hiking in the local mountains and doing wild flower photography. There are more pockets than I can find and I am still losing track of which one I have used to store a lens cap. The medium vest fits me at 160# and 67 perfectly. It does not cause problems with the shoulder, chest or waist strap of my backpack although I must uncinch to get into pockets. The material, zippers, snaps, are all fine. I would have liked to have both bottom outside pockets designed the same. The bottom right outside pocket is sewed down the middle making both halves too small for a lens.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor workmanship. You get what you pay for. It was too small for ordering error. However, I was not impressed with the quality of either the material nor workmanship. Loose threads abound, which gives one pause about the integrity of the seams. Many of the machine sewn seams terminated in un-terminated threads, suggesting unraveled seams in the future. Loose thread remnants abound. I ended up ordering a much more expensive vest ($80 vs. $30-$40) with impeccably sewn seams and high quality material. I would not recommend this vest.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from TOUGH like a HUMVEE should be! I am an event photographer, videogragher and all around camera guru. I love my choice of buying this vest. Works exactly as stated. I wear this on every gig I have and I have yet to fill every pocket and am constantly finding more. Added an all purpose rag/bandanna to the carabiner in the left breast pocket and this vest has it all. Even has a hidden pocket in the back accessible only from the inside for keeping sensitive documents or passports. I am a small build and usually wear medium shirts. I ordered a medium but it runs much larger. I would say two sizes larger. The larger size works for me when worn on top of my steadicam rig. Overall great product if sized correctly.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good product I found difficult to chose a vest without trying it. I thus was guided by the various comments I read on the various sites. The size: I usually wear medium to large clothes. I ordered a Medium one. It felt really big. So I put it in very hot water in the washing machine and after a natural air dry it felt better. I do not think it had shrink a a lot, but the vest shape up. Beside the size, great materials, well finished, plenty and enough pockets (I also have the Humvee vest that has too many pockets from my pinion). Overall it feel serious and I will not fear to lose things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Vest - Great Value FOR THE MONEY - This has been the best vest I have owned. It is lighter weight but that is also why I got it. It proved to be cool and durable through all of the shoots I have worn it on. It washes and wears well. The mesh on the pockets and in the back tend to fade (on the black one I have). Might not be an issue on the lighter colors. I said FOR THE MONEY. Yes the more expensive vests have a little larger pockets. Probably a heavier material too. But this vest has come through with flying colors in usability, style, durability, and over all value. I am planning to buy the lighter color as well. No defects in sewing or zippers. Very satisfied. Two pockets on right are a tad small and COULD be a bit larger but my flash JUST fits. Not Big enough for a lens though. If you are looking for a great looking vest that will not break the bank and give long service, this is a good one. IMPORTANT. Get one size smaller than you regularly do. I usually wear a large but went with reviews and got a medium. Just right!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Nice 'Carry Bag' ! All is well with the vest; except for the zippers. The fabric is great ! The number of pockets are plenty ! But the zippers are BAD ! How I wish that the zippers were smooth too. The crown of the zippers gets 'stuck' if zipped till the top stop. And it is problem with every zipper of the vest. It needs to be tugged and pulled several times, while cursing yourself and the manufacturer, before one of the 'lucky attempts' yields. So the best option to avoid 'being stuck' is to not to fasten the zipper all the way till end. Rather leave a little space for the crown to play.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comfortable, Convenient, Excellent Value This vest is well made and very comfortable to wear. I used it on a hot day and found it to be well ventilated. The number of pockets and their multiple levels makes it important to remember where you put each item. (I searched for a lens cap for about 10 minutes and had to take the vest off to grope around for it.) The epaulets are a great idea except that they are so small that your strap would have to be a string for them to be useful. With that exception, the vest is well designed and a great value for the price.
