Humvee by CampCo HMV-VS-K-L overview

  • 1Description

The large khaki Safari Photo Vest from CampCo is a 100% cotton vest that has 21 pockets, ranging in size from pen sized to oversized. The vented back and mesh liner allow free movement of air around the body. The snap epaulets will keep the camera, binoculars, or tote bag straps on the shoulder. The vest has a heavy-duty zipper that will close the entire front. It also has a single snap closure for the front and two snap adjustments for the sides. The vest is built oversized to accommodate fully filled pockets.

The Safari vest has a large pocket at the bottom back with two snaps; inside there is a large lined pocket that will keep sweat or rain from dampening papers. There are slash pockets on either side of the vest. On the right side from the top down, a shirt sized, bellows pocket with "hook & loop" fastening with two 'D' rings and a vertical zipper pocket with water resistant lining. A set of three pockets, one over the other with the smallest being net is closed with a "hook & clamp" loop, suitable for film or batteries, filters, lenses etc.

Humvee by CampCo HMV-VS-K-L reviews

Safari Photo Vest (Large, Khaki) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 122.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from High functionality, low cost This is a nice low cost alternative to the more expensive photographer vests that nonetheless gives the user a lot of functionality and decent quality construction. There are plenty of pockets and zippers so you'll have lots of places to put stuff. The vest is a little on the heavy side and its 100% cotton fabric is notorious for slow drying, so this isn't the item to wear if rain is in the forecast. I also wonder how well the zippers will hold up with long term usage, but time will tell. I recommend this vest if you're looking for functional production apparel at a good price. Large size is probably the best choice for most shooters.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Buyer beware I purchased this vest through B & H and as always the service and support from B&H was most commendable. After two months of very limited use, occasional weekend use one of the pockets stitching began to fail suddenly. I contacted B & H and they were very helpful. First emailing me a copy of my original invoice and then providing contact information for CampCo. I phoned them to discuss the problem and was cut short being told that they honor no claim after thirty days. I would not have had such an issue with this, if first, the person would have allowed me an opportunity to explain the problem. They did not. I carried the vest to my seamstress, a professional that alters and tailors all of my clothes. She examined the item and told me that the failure was a manufacturing one and not the result of a destructive or careless action on my part. I will not deal with CampCo again. If an item clearly fails as a matter of manufacturing issues I feel the company should at least consider a repair or replacement at their expense.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Decent Vest, Bargain Cost I'm a professional landscape photographer. I purchased this vest over 6 years ago and it's served me well. The front pockets are large enough to fit some pretty fat lenses, even my Pentax medium format 645 28-45mm, which is a TANK. Longer lenses don't fit as well as the pockets aren't quite as deep, but most people would carry those in a bag (or as I now do, in a lens case on my belt). It's lightweight and even though I bought a size too large to make sure it would fit over my parka for harsh Minnesota winter photography, it still works when I'm shooting with just a t-shirt in warmer weather. The back has a pouch that's handy for throwing papers, maps or an extra long sleeve shirt into. The zippers have held up well, but much of the velco sewing has come undone (shortly after purchasing in fact), but that's what you get for $40. I'm buying another one, this time smaller for warmer weather shooting and flying in airports (handy for travel as well).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Exceded my expectations Just bought this and haven't had the opportunity to field test it. But it looks remarkably well thought out. Many great pockets for anything you could possibly want to carry, even an extra body with short zoom and strap attached. Sturdy, with solid double zipper and adjustment snaps. The large runs large, but I like that....more room to stuff the pockets and still be comfortable and, surprisingly it doesn't look all that bulky. I've seen far inferior vests for 5-6 times the price. I'm thinking of getting another one in size medium for those occasions when I don't need to carry as many big items and a tighter fit is called for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT VEST Have used this vest only a few times and i like it very much so far. I keep finding pockets every time i put it on. Im a Photo1 student in college and just got this vest for no reason really. i do shoot digital all the time and have a few lens that i carry with me as well. The vest does keep me warm in the lab when developing photos which is a good thing and i can store my phone and a few things i might need with me in the vest while developing as well. The D ring works well for a light meter i hang from it the looks are great for the same thing or a camera strap. I have no used the lapels as of yet so i can not comment on that. I did get a LG and it fits loose which i do like so if i do fill it up i'll have room to do so and it won't be tight. I will add to this review once i use the vest more.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quality Questionable I received this vest and like that it has enough pockets. I have tried to put lens caps, lens cloths and other various things I need in my pants and shirt pockets. Have lost a few items in the process. I received this vest on Thursday and used it all day Friday. I even fit a flash in the large back pocket. It worked great except... One of the zippers will not open. I tried forcing it with great vigor but the zipper won the fight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Vest; Changes would make it GREAT This is a good product; well built and comfortable. Plenty of pockets for equipment and accessories. My only complains are that the Long Lens pockets (with elastic) on the right side of the vest are too small for a Nikkor 70300 VR zoom,(Actually anything but the thinnest lens would have trouble fitting, so these pockets were mostly useless). And the epaulets are WAY too short for any kind of strap larger than 3/4 of an inch wide. Otherwise the vest served me well during a recent Alaska Photo Safari.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value! I purchased this vest to carry extra lenses and other photographic essentials for outdoor photography excursions. This vest has numerous pockets of varying sizes to hold anything from my 70-300 and 10-22 zoom lenses to lens filters and extra flash cards and batteries. This vest allows me to take three lenses out in the field, one on the camera and two in the vest. Prior to buying this vest I had to lug around my photo back pack or limit the number of lenses that I could take with me.
