Great Vest. Lots of Pockets

This vest has lots of pockets and hook for all of the little doodads and knicknacks. I can keep my filters, extra batteries and even a lens or two. I got the Large first but at 240lb or so I found I needed the X-Large.

Very nice vest.

My wife ordered a vest from another source for my birthday. It was cheap. Too short. Flimsy. So we returned it. That is when I looked on BH to see what they had. This Humvee vest is just what I was looking for. Fits well. Made of good material. Pockets are spacious. And it is long enough for someone over 6 feet tall like myself. Love this vest. Save yourself the time and trouble and order this one first.

The vest fits well with buying it oversize. Easier to move in and no trouble clutching pockets on the go . Well designed. I live in Louisiana and a romop through the wood leves me pretty wet, but this vest holds it shape and helkps me keep cool. I wouldn't suggest wearing it in a canoe or Kayak as they have a tendency to roll and you don't want all the stuff you carry dragging you down. In all honesty it feels great and soes a good job keeping you with your stuff straight.

The only downside of this vest is remembering which pocket you stashed stuff in. I used one as a camp host, filling pockets with Junior Ranger badges, reward stickers, site reservation slips, park guides, even a guide to flora and fauna. And dryer wrinkle sheets for warding off those pesky yellow jackets (yes!) This one holds my outdoor sketching and painting gear.

pockets not as many or as large as I wanted.

I used to have a Domke vest that was exactly what I needed but no one makes a shooting vest like that any more.

How deep in inches is the left bottom pocket? I have one of these vests bought a few years ago and the pocket holds a reporter's notebook, but now it looks like the whole vest and the bottom pockets are shorter.
Asked by: Julia
Not all "reporter's notebooks" are the same size--an 8" notebook will not fit entirely in the pocket; a 6" notebook is a bit too tall, but will fit with the flap open a bit.

question

How big are the padded pockets? I have a very large Cannon 75 - 200 zoom lens We're going to Ireland & I want to put all my photo gear in this.
Asked by: Keith
Hi Keith,Based upon my so far limited use of this vest, I would caution you to think of it for all of your photo gear if all of your photo gear is as heavy as mine. On a local shoot I stuffed a smaller Canon zoom into one of the large front pockets and it tore through the inner pocket lining so I had to work to fish it out. The vest is made for all of the small stuff.BH has many other alternatives for the big gear. My wife and I just flew to the Florida keys for a vacation and I found the ultimate solution for all my photo gear was the Vanguard camera case that looks exactly like a piece of carry on luggage and fits the overhead racks in the airplane. My Canon 7D, G16 small cam, and several lenses including the 70-200, plus 2 flashes and all the other small stuff fit like a glove. Plus, I had the security of knowing it wasn't in baggage. And, while you're driving around in your rental car, it disguises itself as just a small suitcase. When I ran it through airport security's xray, they didn't even open it.So, how did I carry on road trips in the keys? Slung the big cam over my shoulder with the selected lens for the trip, hanging toward my back and the G16 in a small belt case. Just carefully planned ahead with fully charged batts and lots of room on the cards. Worked great for that trip. Came home with nearly a thousand shots that distilled down in post to a nice 200 shot slide show.I like the vest for when I'm doing the kind of shoot where all the small stuff might be important and I can't get back to my car or base in case I need a flash, lens cleaner gear, and so on.Good shooting in Ireland! Can't find the bill of sale at the moment for the Vanguard case but I'll bet if you call up BH and give them my email address, they can look up my purchase. Within the last year. Only big case bought from them.

question

I'm wondering about sizing. The specs say 1/2 chest is 26.7 . I assume that means being measured from mid-sternum to mid-spine, which, doubled, is 53.4 . My chest measures 48 . Is this the correct thought process? Is a 53 vest going to be too large for a 48 chest? Thanks in advance!

This is a very poor quality West. I would not buy it again.
