Kodak Portra 800 overview

  • 1Description

Kodak's Professional Portra 800 is a high-speed daylight-balanced color negative film optimized for use in difficult lighting conditions. It has a nominal sensitivity of ISO 800/30° along with a notable underexposure latitude for effectively pushing to ISO 1600 with maintained quality and extended highlight and shadow detail. Vivid color saturation and low overall contrast contribute to pleasing skin tones and neutral color accuracy, and a micro-structure optimized T-GRAIN emulsion renders a fine grain structure with high sharpness and edge acutance. Kodak's proprietary advanced development accelerators and antenna dye sensitization also offer enhanced scanning and enlarging performance. Portra 800 is very well-suited to photographing moving subjects and working in low-light conditions while maintaining true color reproduction.

This item is one 36-exposure roll of 35mm film.

Kodak Portra 800 reviews

Professional Portra 800 Color Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 36 Exposures) is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 77.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Make beautiful images I love this film more than pancakes, which says a lot because I really love pancakes. The film scans amazingly. I shoot mostly portraiture on two different cameras. My 35mm is a Hasselblad Xpan, and I like to shoot all my colour film two stops over what they're rated. With lenses at a f/4 wide open, this can be difficult on an Xpan when shooting 160 at 40 and even 400 at 100 in some situations. Having this gorgeous film available to shoot at 200 and not having to worry about colours shifting or too much grain is awesome. Oh, and it scans beautifully. I couldn't recommend this any more highly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not as flexible as Portra 400 or 160 Emulsion color response isn't the greatest in tungsten or dusk light. Too green/cyan for my taste. Perfect emulsion for indoor situaions lit by natural light during the day though. I guess that is to say it is very sensitive to color temp shifts... unless you want to go through the bother of filters on your lenses. It's grainy, but no better or worse than 400 speed film pushed one stop. I would rather pay the lower price for the 400 speed film.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best choice for high speed color When the light gets low or you need faster shutter, this is the only good choice for color film. I prefer to use small primes, and I don't want to buy a bigger, more expensive lens just for the occasions that I need color. Easier just to use this! Yes there is a bit of grain, and the colors aren't as vibrant as slower films, but for reasonably sized prints of people, it's great. Colors are also still accurate and perfect for skin tones.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good 800 speed I used this for low light situations. It has a fair amount of grain. Grain structure is pretty good. Colors are same colors you come to expect from portra. Good film if overexposed a bit. Does the job. Upset kodak doesnt have a 1600 though.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Portra is now my default color film I like the colors of portra and its the color palette that has me coming back for more (even after I vowed to give up my attachment to film). I will say, After I finish shooting this last batch, I'll sell my film cameras and 'go digital') Then when my scans come through, everytime I've given up film, I buy another five pack of portra! I think this is one of the best films currently.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Portra 800 - Favorite Film Portra 800 is my favorite film because you cannot go wrong with it - you almost can't mess it up. The worst thing you can do when exposing film is underexposing and with an 800 ISO, it is hard to underexpose. I am usually left with a perfectly balanced photograph in terms of light, unless my settings were 2 or 3 stops off, which hasn't really ever happened. Outside of that, the colors and grain are jsut about unmatched when it comes to Kodak Portra!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Purchase of 35 MM kodak film --800 ASA It's very difficult to get 800 ASA speed film here locally, in New Orleans, any for for 35 mm cameras. I had to go to B&H in NYC to get an order filled & shipped. Took pictures at an indoor Gala-Auction event, indoors with many people. The pics came out great, and so much better than the 400 ASA film which is the only quick-speed now available in stores in this area. The indoor clearness and color developed extremely well. Thanks to B&H for making the supply available. Mike Murphy (Kenner, LA suberb of New Orleans)
