Key Features
  • Daylight-Balanced Color Negative Film
  • ISO 800/30° in C-41 Process
  • Fine Grain, High Sharpness & Edge Detail
  • Vivid Color Saturation, Low Contrast
Kodak's Professional Portra 800 is a high-speed daylight-balanced color negative film optimized for use in difficult lighting conditions. It has a nominal sensitivity of ISO 800/30° along with a notable underexposure latitude for effectively pushing to ISO 1600 with maintained quality and extended highlight and shadow detail. Vivid color saturation and low overall contrast contribute to pleasing skin tones and neutral color accuracy, and a micro-structure optimized T-GRAIN emulsion renders a fine grain structure with high sharpness and edge acutance. Kodak's proprietary advanced development accelerators and antenna dye sensitization also offer enhanced scanning and enlarging performance. Portra 800 is very well-suited to photographing moving subjects and working in low-light conditions while maintaining true color reproduction.

Great film for doing night photography or mid day photography.

TOO EXPENSIVE

I've been using this film for years and to see Kodak raise the rent on us every year is disheartening. They talk about how much they claim to help artists create when in actuality they only care about making a buck. The new prices are absolutely absurd and I think it's time we boycott them to send a message.

What more can I say? It's great, everyone at least likes it, appreciates that 800 ISO.

Go-to indoor film

I shoot this in a Rolleiflex 2.8c and in a Fujica GW690II - Such a great film indoors - have pushed to 1600 with no discernible diminishment of quality. Great at normal iso at dusk outside. Excellent for stormy landscapes. Such a versatile film. Excellent color.

Too Expensive / Doesn't Roll properly anymore

Great film, I've made some great work with it. That being said - the prices are out of control. The film for whatever reason is now getting stuck at the end of the roll which risks causing light leaks when trying to unload it. So the quality of the material has clearly gone down, yet the prices have gone way up. I will more than likely discontinue using this film based on those two reasons alone. It's a shame.

question

What is the expiration date? The picture shows May 2011?
Asked by: Anonymous
B&H buys and sells film in bulk. In general we regularly maintain fresh film stock. All of our film is at least 6 months from expiration (typically much longer). Anytime film stock is less than 6 months from expiration we sell it in a separate section and label it as short-dated film and also price it with a slight discount (again due to the volumes we sell this rarely occurs). Unfortunately we do not have access to our inventory to hand inspect the expiration date of any of our films prior to purchase.
