Compact, High-Quality Imaging
Made more compact by the removal of the EVF, the Z5 IIC nevertheless makes no compromise on power. A full-frame, FX-format 24.5MP BSI CMOS sensor paired with an EXPEED 7 image processor provides a versatile mixture of high-resolution imaging, responsive AI-powered autofocus, and full-resolution continuous shooting up to 30 fps.
At native values, a sensitivity range from ISO 100-64000 permits working in a broad array of lighting conditions and can be further expanded up to ISO 50-204800 for extreme lighting conditions. The full-frame sensor provides greater depth of field, low-light performance, and image quality than comparable travel-sized cameras with smaller sensors.
Autofocus You Can Trust
No matter your subject, it's easy to keep them in focus thanks to the Z5 IIC's powerful autofocus. Intelligent subject detection can be set to recognize ten different subject types, including people, animals, birds, and vehicles, as well as a new aquatic life mode. When working in Auto-Area AF, these subjects will automatically be detected, focused on, and tracked to ensure sharp focus when the subject is moving across the frame.
Pre-Release Capture
The EXPEED 7 processor also unlocks Pre-Release Capture, ensuring you'll never miss the decisive moment by recording frames in a burst of up to 30 fps for up to a second prior to actually releasing the shutter. When this feature is activated, burst shooting will commence when the shutter is half-pressed, and the buffer will retain the frames after fully pressing the shutter.
Sensor-Shift Vibration Reduction
Work in low-light situations with full confidence thanks to the Z5 IIC's 5-axis sensor-shift Vibration Reduction (VR) mechanism. For handheld long exposures, concert photography, slow shutter action photography, and more, the VR mechanism compensates for up to five stops of stabilization to help produce sharp images. With compatible lenses, up to 7.5 stops of stabilization is possible. For smooth handheld video recording, Electronic VR is available to help steady footage without additional stabilization tools.
High-Quality Video Output
A powerful tool for hybrid creators, the Z5 IIC supports UHD 4K video recording up to 60 fps and Full HD recording up to 120 fps, along with recording time limits up to two hours, a video self-timer feature, built-in electronic Vibration Reduction, and the ability to save movie files to the in-camera memory cards or an optional external recorder via HDMI out. In-camera time-lapse shooting is also possible with the ability to produce a finished UHD 4K video file directly from the camera.
For more demanding creative workflows, the Z5 IIC can record 12-bit N-RAW video in resolutions up to 4032 × 2268, as well as 10-bit H.265 video in N-Log with multiple free RED LUTs for striking visuals. The camera also features a Product Review mode and is UAC/UAV compliant for live web-streaming without additional software.
Creative Color Control
A Picture Control button atop the Z5 IIC provides easy access to its 31 built-in presets, even in Auto mode. The color presets can now be overlaid on the rear LCD screen, letting you preview the effects of the color shifts. It's also possible to download your favorite Creator Recipes built by fellow Nikon shooters through the Nikon Imaging Cloud. You can then integrate them alongside your existing presets.
Body Design and Connectivity
- Thanks to the elimination of the EVF, the Z5 IIC features a flat-top design that reduces the overall profile for convenient daily carrying. This makes the Z5 IIC ideal for creators searching for a more compact full-frame setup who primarily use the LCD screen to compose their shots.
- A bright 3.2" 2.1m-dot LCD screen provides clear and vivid image playback and live view shooting. The vari-angle touchscreen allows you to select the focus point with your fingertips and makes it easy to compose images and adjust the camera settings from nearly any angle.
- The Warm Display Colors mode benefits shooting at night, switching the information display from white to red to reduce brightness and preserve night vision. Additionally, Starlight View mode gives a clear view even in near-complete darkness, which is beneficial for astrophotography.
- An incorporated recording light on the subject side of the camera makes it easy to recognize when recording is in progress.
- The headphone jack doubles as a terminal for Nikon's optional MC-DC3 Remote Release Cord, and the USB-C terminal provides both camera charging and USB power delivery. A micro-HDMI port allows external recording and live view for higher-budget filmmaking applications.
- Built-in SnapBridge connectivity enables seamless transfer of low-resolution imagery as well as remote shooting control. BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) and Wi-Fi enable communication between the camera and a smart device. Additionally, the mobile device can remotely trigger the shutter and display a live view image from the camera to enable working from a distance.
