Use the extra-long focal length Meade Instruments Series 4000 40mm Super Plossl Eyepiece to produce relatively low magnification for exploring the moon and planets within our solar system, and the wonders beyond.

This eyepiece is made in a 4-element lens configuration with blackened edges and anti-reflection multi-coated optics to produce bright and clear images with accurate color rendition across its generous 52° field of view. It is outfitted with a standard 1.25" diameter barrel to be compatible with a wide variety of focuser drawtubes and accessories, such as diagonals; and a textured collar for sure handling in cold weather or while wearing gloves. An exceptionally long 28mm eye relief allows the eye to back off the eyepiece to limit vibration, and its convenient fold-down rubber eyecup helps to block stray peripheral light from interfering with views. Meade engineered this model to be parfocal with all other 1.25" Series 4000 eyepieces, requiring little or no re-focusing when changing magnifications during viewing sessions.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great eyepiece Excellent coatings and sharp images. I even use it in my 200 f/5 newtonian reflector. Although the AFoV is about 43 it gives the biggest exit pupil for your scope (ep focal distance / scope focal ratio). Yes, I know the AFoV is a little bit narrower than the 32mm ep (52), but certainly the increased exit pupil justifies it. Some folks prefer the wider field of the 32mm, some like me, don't mind an extra exit pupil with a narrower field. This eyepiece has the biggest focal distance available in 1.25 eyepieces, otherwise you should jump to 2. So it's one ep that must be in every collection, even if you don't use it much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great view A nice solid feel without being to heavy. Well packaged in it's own unique case. Nice clear optic's as well as a very good field of view. Great for initial alignment and for observing objects that are large and close like the Moon or the Sun.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from great performance fo rprice Used for terrestrial viewing in a 1200mm Cassegrain scope. It yields 30x for this scope and it gives a fairly bright image. Eye relief is fine and the image looks pretty flat near the edges. You can't go wrong for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works perfectly I'm no pro and bought the telescope for fun and to educate my grand kids. The eyepiece that came with the unit worked great, but had very little magnification. The 20 and 40mm are great for getting a lot closer. They are well packaged in their own thick plastic tubes to protect them.
