The Shure M97XE is a highly sensitive turntable cartridge designed to produce audio with extreme accuracy and detail. The MX97E provides long term listening without ear fatigue by reproducing high frequencies and low passages with extreme accuracy and without distortion and noise.

The M97XE features a dynamic stabilizer, which maintains a uniform distance between the cartridge and the record under difficult playing conditions, such as those caused by warped records, or mismatched tonearm mass. Additional features include a Side-Guard stylus protection system which protects against damage caused by accidental sliding.

Rich sonic detail and response
Extremely accurate reproduction on high frequencies and low passages
Dynamic Stabilizer aides in playing uneven surfaces such as warped records
Compatible with the Shure N92E replacement needle
SIDE-GUARD stylus protection system helps prevent stylus damage if the cartridge accidentally slides across a record

    Shure M97xE reviews

M97XE High Accuracy Turntable Cartridge is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 115.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Performance Profile Far Beyond Its Price The Shure M97XE is a classic and one serious performer for several reasons. This cartridge is a class leading tracker. You would be hard pressed to find a cartridge that can track as well. I use it at a VTF of 2 grams (with the damped brush down) and am able track warped LPs that launch other cartidges. Sound is nicely balanced while clicks, pops and surface noise are nicely suppressed. The sound stage is wide and deep. The mid-range is sweet, with tight deep bass and crystal highs. The brush really does sweep the grooves of dust and helps eliminate static. This cartridge out-performs cartridges costing far more.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from This cartridge does its job... I purchased this Shure cartridge to use on a new Audio-Technica AT-LP1240 turntable. The thing I like about it is the M97XE has a brush to sweep away dust from records. I still use a Pioneer PL-500 turntable equipped with a Shure M93ED cartridge. The PL-500 and the Shure M93ED cartridge are both 36 years old. I find that the M93ED sound quality is identical to that of the Shure M97XE. I've had to replace the stylus of the M93ED several times but the cartridge itself is like a Timex watch; (it takes a licking and keeps on ticking). If the M97XE can last for 36 years I'll again be a satisfied customer of Shure products. Feldman

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Value, Great Sounding! I'm not an audiophile. I just like to listen to music. I upgraded from a AT120E cartridge with a bent stylus that came on my Technics SL1200 MK2 when I purchased it. I could replace the stylus on the AT for about what I paid for the Shure, but I wanted to try something new. I wasn't sure what to expect, but all the reviews I had read were positive and my budget was somewhat limited. Before the change to the M97XE I got very little low end from my table. My subwoofer barely put out any sound unless I had it cranked to 11! With the M97XE I have plenty of bottom at normal listening volume as well as mids and highs. The difference is profound. If you're looking for a great cart on a budget I would recommend the M97XE.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great replacement cartridge I have installed it in an old Technics SL-20 turntable so I can listen to my old LP records. The sound quality is excellent when I play some classical music. It was delivered right at my door in very sturdy packaging. The instructions were simple enough to install it and adjust the tonearm. It came with a small cleaning brush. The cartrige itself has a tiny free-floating brush (it is also retractable) to sweep the groove ahead of the stylus...clever!. I found that the supplied screws were a little too long to mount the cartridge exactly as per the instructions. A spacer would have been useful. Recommended item nevertheless.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value. I'm into very High End stereo systems. I have thousands invested in ARC amps, Pre Amps, etc.I also usually prefer Moving Coil turntable cartridges.I recently purchased the Shure M97XE to help a friend on a budget. The sound was far better than I expected. In fact, it was so good, I bought one for myself for use in the studio. (not a home studio) I am critical about good sound. For the money, this is one of the best sounding cartridges in the under $250 range...way less.B & H Photo had exactly what I wanted at a very competitive price. Ordering was a snap and it was delivered promptly & packed properly.I don't have time to deal with mistakes or poor quality. I know I can count on B & H for quality products and service and I'm VERY persnickity about quality processes. 5 Stars for B & H as well as Shure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good solid, warm sound I am using it in an original Garrard 1000B turntable to replace another Shure cartridge that my grandson broke the stylus on. I couldn't find a replacement, as it was over 30 years old. I am 63 years old now, and wear hearing aids, so I don't know if what I am hearing is as good as when I was 25. It sounds better than the cartridge I replaced, and sounds extremely good to me. It handles all the frequency range excellent. I am running it thru my original Macintosh 1700. I will buy another one to use in my Garrard SL95B when I get it running again. ... I highly recommend it. Also B&H was the lowest price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy enough for a newbie to install I appreciated the ease of install when the base of the prongs on the Cartridge were color coated to match up to the four colored wires. I was apprehensive at first about the install but after a few youtube videos and a quick read of the instruction manual I was set to go. The sound is amazing! Lifts the music right out of the grooves and into my living room with precision that is sure to impress. Enjoy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High Value High Performance Cartridge I use this cartridge in a VPI Traveler turntable. For me it tracks best at 2 grams with the damped brush down. The M97XE is an excellent tracker. It tracks my warped records perfectly without a squawk. The sound has great smoothness and great detail. Soundstage has very good depth. The M97XE outperforms boutique cartridges that cost stupid prices. This is a must have piece of equipment.
