Key Features
  • F-Mount Lens/FX Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
  • Two Aspherical Elements
  • Super Integrated Coating
A simple yet sophisticated standard zoom, the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF from Nikon is a wide-angle to portrait-length zoom well-suited to a wide variety of shooting applications. The optical design incorporates a pair of aspherical elements to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations in order to render greater sharpness and clarity. A Super Integrated Coating has also been applied to minimize reflections and flare for increased contrast when working in backlit and harsh lighting. The lens's internal focusing AF system affords quick and precise control, and manual focus adjustment is also available. Additionally, a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality to suit shallow depth of field techniques.

question

what are the advantages or disadvanteges between the newer 24to85 3.5/4.5 vr lens to this one? I know vr advantages, and it seems people like this 2.8/4.0 for its sharpness. what are your recommendations. thank you.

The D version has an f/stop ring. This allows the lens with the use of a lens adapter to have f/stop function on other brand cameras.Besides VR the biggest difference in the D version lens is it does not have a built in focus motor. Many Nikon DSLR cameras will not autofocus without the lens having a focus motor. The Nikon brand lenses that have a focus motor built in are called AF-S.

Nikon has championed the F mount since 1959, The Nikon AF Zoom-NIKKOR 24-85mm f/2.8-4D IF Lens will not only fit on the F100, it will auto focus sharply and auto expose well with it too. Goo luck.

question

Is it better than AF-S DX nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6g ed VR ii lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Nikon 24-85mm f2.8-4D lens is an excellent lens. It is very sharp and has a very effective macro feature to it. It is sharper than the Nikon 18-200mm lens but obviously has a shorter overall zoom range.

question

I currently have the D90 and am wondering about the performance with this camera. I also am anticipating upgrading soon to a D800e and want to know if it will work well with that camera as well since I cannot afford to buy all new lenses.
Asked by: Anonymous
This is an older lens, but it is a good lens. Optically it is very sharp and it is fully compatible with both the D90 and the larger sensor D800e camera.
