Nikon AF NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G Overview

Simple yet versatile, the AF Zoom-NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4-5.6G from Nikon is a wide-reaching telephoto zoom well-suited for a variety of subjects ranging from portraits to wildlife. The 13 elements, 9 groups optical design features a Super Integrated Coating to suppress flare and ghosting in order to generate greater contrast and color accuracy when working harsh lighting and backlit conditions. The lens's autofocus system affords quick and precise control, and manual focus adjustment is also available. Additionally, a rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality to suit shallow depth of field techniques.

Telephoto zoom is designed for FX-format F-mount DSLRs, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 105-450mm equivalent focal length.
A Super Integrated Coating has been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Autofocus system is compatible with select Nikon DSLRs that support D-type lenses, and offers quick and precise focusing performance.

Autofocus is not supported by DSLRs lacking an autofocus motor, such as the D3000-series, D5000-series, D40, D40X, and D60, where the lens may be used with manual focus only.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

question

is this compatible to nikon d5300?
Asked by: Anonymous
Although this lens will fit and meter properly on the Nikon D5300, it will not autofocus. It does not have the autofocus motor necessary to achieve this. For an alternative that will autofocus on the D5300, please see B&H # NI7030045AFS, http://bhpho.to/Isgywd

question

Well the auto focus work with a Nikon D-50?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Nikon AF 70-300mm lens will autofocus on the Nikon D50. The D50 has a built-in motor for focus, so the lens does not need to have its own built-in motor in order for autofocus to be supported.

question

Does the AutoFocus option work on a D40? Got this lens but most of my zoomed pictures are coming out blurry - even when I manually focus.
Asked by: Paige K.
A few questions must be asked to ascertain your blurry images. You mentioned 'zoomed pictures' but have not indicated how far you zoom out. Given the D40 has a 1.5x lens factor, this lens at 300mm indicated in actually become a 450mm lens. But at an aperture of F5.6, your shutter has to be at least 1/500 second in order to hold a reasonable sharp image. The lens itself is an incredible piece of glass, some say it is the 'poor man's version of the 70-200 F2.8G. I had this lens and its optical performance is quite close to its big cousin, about the only thing needed to add is the new Nano coating which I believe, Nikon will add it sometime in the future. Here is a way to check your focusing and camera holding technique, since D40 does not have liveview, you have to resort to focusing looking through your eyepiece. So you can do the following:1. Find an identical situation where your prior blurry pictures are produced.2. Without changing any ISO setting zoom out to its approximate values such as focal length, background brightness, etc.3. now, look through your eye piece by using your normal technique, (hand held, on tripod, etc) and see if the image in the lens oscillate even if you try your best attempt to hold it steady. Do not shoot any image at this stage, the point is for you to see what natural rhythm your own body is generating that is influencing the camera/lens/focal length combination.4. Now, take note of your shutter speed as indicated, if it shows anything less than 1/500 of a second, you stand a good chance for blurry picture.5. Now, if you use tripod but still getting blurry picture, this may be the culprit: the VR function on the lens (does your len have this function), if it is left on, it will generate its own vibration because it is seeking but find none. This little action had bedeviled many who use higher end equipment but not quite understand their function. Hope this is helpful

question

will this lens AF work with D70's and N8008?
Asked by: Anonymous
The lens is fully compatible with the D70/D70s models. With the N8008 camera the lens would only allow the camera to be used in P Program mode, S Shutter Preferred mode, and M Manual exposure mode.

question

Will this work with a D3100 body?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Nikon AF 70-300mm will work on the Nikon D3100, however you will not have autofocus capability, as there is no built-in focus motor on this lens. The Nikon D3000 series of camera bodies don't have built-in autofocus motors, so the lenses being used on those cameras need to have their own motors, which would be the AF-S line of Nikon lenses. The AF-S version of the Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6G lens can be found at the following link, should you desire autofocus capability: http://bhpho.to/Isgywd
