LEE Filters PLC-G Overview

Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun. Filter factor is between 2.3 and 2.8 (approx. +1.3 stops).

Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems and video cameras without problems).

This filter is glass and measures 4x4".

Used for Product photography! Awsome!

Your work will improve a lot with this if you do photograph products! I can not believe I did not have this! I am surprised by the difference in quality! The before and after photos are posted! The one with the smooth bluish background is the one with the filter! Which is pretty obvious of course!

Great Filter

I tested this against a cheaper filter. In terms of sharpness the filters were about the same. However, the effect of the LEE was markedly stronger than the other filter. Ultimately I went with the Lee. The only downside is that it is pricey.

Perfect for landscape

This is the perfect addition for the Lee filter system when you want to reduce reflection or enhance the sky. It's great for landscape if you want to stack it with an N.D. filter to lengthen exposure time. It's pretty much for tripod work, but you can get different mounts and adapter rings for different lenses. Saves you money in the long run.

Works Great For Me

Great quality and with the Lee Filter System, it's easy to use with ND filters for amazing landscapes. I was worried before if you needed to turn the filter to the side to get good effects, and if this would cause problems when using graduated ND filters. This is not the case. Placing the filter in the standard orientation has worked fine in all the lighting situations, and still allowed me to add a grad ND for the sky.

Easy to be a pro with this filter!

I loved this filter the moment I used it. It'll make you look like an instant pro. I read so many books and reviews about filters before purchasing this one and as soon as I got it I knew how I was going to this and everything I used it on looked so much better.

I have the Laowa 12mm lens with the filter holder but the size is for 100mm x 100mm filter. Is 4 x 4 should fit in ? BTW can you tell me the thickness of the filter ? Thank's Daniel
Asked by: Daniel
The size conversion of a 4 x 4 filter in inches would be 101.6 x 101.6 mm in millimeters. As it simply depends on which measurement system you are using, 4 x 4 filters and 100 x 100mm filters are interchangeable. The LEE Filters 4x4 Circular Polarizer Glass Filter would fit inside the NiSi 100mm Filter Holder Kit for Venus Optics Laowa 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D Lens. The LEE Filters 4x4 Circular Polarizer Glass Filter is 2mm thick.

Can someone tell me which is actually less of a hassle to use: the 4x4 or the circular 105mm glass filter? Someone commented to use an ND plus the 4x4 you need to have an adapter plus a second foundation kit to be able to rotate the two filters independently. If instead you use the 105mm circular polarizer plus one LEE ND 4x4 with the foundation kit, is it easy to rotate the circular polarizer? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the 4x4 as opposed to the 105mm circular Lee polarizer?Basically, which of the two gives the best results with the least hassle using multiple Lee filters? Thanks for feedback, all of you experienced Lee fans, anne

It depends on the additional filters you are using. If you are using a graduated filter and a polarizer, the round polarizer will be the better one to use. The reasoning is that when you use a graduated filter you usually adjust the position of the filter for the shot. Then you just rotate the round filter. The square polarizer you will need to rotate the whole holder. As for quality I do not believe there is much difference. My suggestion is to use the 105mm polarizer. The items you will in addition to the adapter is,, and

How thick is this filter?I have the LEE filter holder and would assume it fits the 4mm slots, but I've been surprised in the past. Thanks.

This filter, as with other LEE 4x4 filters, is 2mm thick.

So if you did get the pro foundation kit so you can rotate this separately from other filters, would you put it closest to the lens or last? If you have this set up, have you tried it both ways?
Asked by: Anonymous
That one does not rotate separate from the other filters. It fits in the same slot so you will need to rotate the holder itself. The option is to use the 105mm adapter and a 105mm polarizing filter. This is both parts,LEE Filters 105mm Accessory Front Thread Adapter RingB&H # LEFARPFK105 ? I have never used my polarizer for video, but I would think it would work very well.

Is there a difference between using this lee circular polorizer filter vs a screw on type?
Asked by: Anonymous
They are both circular polarizers, just a different form factor. The square filter needs to be inserted in the holder in with the proper sides facing in and out. Otherwise they work jus the same as a screw in filter. If using with GND filters as well, you may be limited to 90 degree orientations to give the GND the right orientation. In practice, this is much less of deal than you may think.

Hi there, if using ND or GND filter with a Polarising filter would you put the polarising filter in front of the ND and GND filter or behind? Thanks in advance :-)
Asked by: Jerome D.
I would place it in the second slot, orient, then slide the ND in the first slot because it has the light sealing sponge. For a GND, you would need a tandem holder or use a screw in polarizer instead.Hope that helps.
