Heliopan 71058H Overview

The Heliopan 58mm Screw-in Rubber Lens Hood is designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering a lens by extending and shading its front end. This prevents lens flare and improves image contrast. In addition, since the end of a lens is extended when using a hood, you also get the benefit of extra protection from accidental impact to that lens's front element.

This lens hood is constructed with a rubber compound that is UV and temperature resistant, and the rubber material can be rolled back for storage or to convert the hood for use with wide-angle lenses. By rolling back the lens hood, its opening can be made to correspond with a wide-angle lens's angle of view so that vignetting is avoided.

A metal mounting ring connects the hood to a lens with 58mm filter threads and a 0.75mm thread pitch. The mounting ring also features corresponding 58mm front filter threads which can be used to accommodate filters, lens caps, or other threaded accessories.

  • Fits lenses with 58mm filter threads and a 0.75mm pitch
  • Blocks light from the sides of a lens's front element
  • Prevents lens flare and improves image contrast
  • Rolls back for storage or to avoid vignetting with wide-angle lenses
  • Double-threaded connecting ring allows a filter with 58mm rear threads with a 0.75mm pitch to be attached after the lens hood is screwed onto a filter or lens
  • Accepts lens caps
  • Provides protection from accidental impacts to a lens's front element
  • UV and temperature resistant

The solution for adjusting polaroid filters

Using a polaroid filter with a plastic lens hood is near impossible and if you can figure out a way to turn the filter, you get fingerprints all over it. With the Heliopan lens hood, you screw it into the polaroid filter and then the filter into the camera. Then, when you adjust the polaroid, you just turn the rubber lens hood. Problem solved.

Small price to pay!

I have purchased other rubber lens hoods before and have always been disappointed in the over all quality of the item. The Heliopan is a prime example of, You get what you pay for! The thicknees of the rubber is ample and the entire hood collapses to a very compact size. I have it mounted on a Zeiss 50mm ZF.2 and it screws on effortlessly. I store the lens in a Lowepro 9x9cm case and the hood prevents any shifting during transport! As the other review states, it absorbs impacts without denting, scratching nor transfers the shock to the lens. That with it's compactability makes it a valued purchase! I don't write many reviews but this product is worth the investment!

An essential accessory made of high quality materials. By far the best quality made lens hood on the market. Works perfectly. Added benefit of being able to screw a filter into the front threads.

Using this type of hood since the '70s it was obvious for me to go for it again. After ordering a Pentax 645 lens SMC 75mm I figured out that I did not own the proper size (58mm) yet. My oldest rubber lens hoods still in use without any wear are more than 40 years old.... Those Heliopan hoods do allow using the original snap-on lens caps which makes them much more usable. Another bonus is the protection of the lens' front.
