Heliopan 706037 overview

  • 1Description

The Heliopan 60mm Solid Neutral Density 0.9 Filter is an ND filter with an 8x filter factor that provides a 3-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.9 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

To prevent internal ghosting and reflections, each glass surface includes four layers of anti-reflection coating. Together, these eight coatings offer greater protection to the filter substrate and help it to stay clean for longer than with uncoated filters.

This Heliopan neutral density filter is constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity as well as color fidelity and features a brass filter ring for enhanced durability and jamming prevention.

60mm Solid Neutral Density 0.9 Filter (3 Stop) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Everyday filter for the Leica Noctilux I use this filter on my Leica Noctilux 50mm f/0.95 lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Form factor and performance Let me first say I like Heliopan glass. I have 10 Leica lenses, and, where possible, I use Heliopan filters and protective glass. I bought this filter for my Noctilux 0.95, my goal being to spend more time with the 'King of the Night' in full sun. I have been using a Heliopan variable ND filter, and while it is more versatile, its form factor is too bulky to use other than for a specific shoot. I cannot leave the V-ND on thelens. The 3-stop filter is more useful in that it is thin, same diameter as the lens barrel, and the front threads are deep enough to accept the lens cap. When one considers the native ISO of the Leica M-series and available shutter speeds and does the exposure math, a 3-stop filter will handle all but the brightest days and most highly reflective scenes. So far, the filter is performing as expected. I have not noticed any color cast so it preserves the 'N' in ND. No distortion. If there's a downside, I haven't found it. Positives are expanded use of the Noctilux, and, of course, the lens does not disappoint. Having the right ND filter has encouraged me to get out and spend more time with a heavy, demanding lens. In my opinion, Leica ought to supply a 3-stop ND filter with the lens.
