The MH 1004 will feature a 3/8 -16 female connection, with an included 1/4 -20 reducer bushing for smaller threads. These two size choices will accommodate pretty much any standard tripod.

The one I purchased was MH 1004 mini ball head Model: MH 1004-320). According to the specification the base diameter is 24mm/0.94 inch.

Can it hold a SB600 or similar flash?
It should hold your flash with a cold-shoe adaptor without any problems. I use mine for my M43 camera which is a much heavier device.
