Matthews MiniGrip Head Reviews

More plastic than I thought

It's fine. Good for a boom boy or flags.

Only works with small rods

Probably my fault as I assumed it would but it cannot grip two 5/8 rods together like most other grip heads. Only the part that you wold normally attach to the stand accepts 5/8 but the rotating clamp doesn't have a hole of that size. Doesn't work for my purposes but the unit seems well designed and built.

Great for indoors but your boom pole will sag outside

I use this with an Auray Boom Pole Holder and it works fine indoors at a moderate 6-8ft extension. But in a windy situation where a boom needs a full blimp and windjammer this grip will slip. Stick to the metal grip heads if you need absolute stability and versatility.

Awesome alternative to the full size grip heads. Good quality plastic and smooth operation

Used On Every Shoot

I use these every time I go out on a shoot. Wether mounting small LED panels, setting small to medium sized flags and nets, holding a boom pole cradle, or using with the Lightbridge CRLS system. They are lightweight and efficient.

Used on tons of doc work...

I've used these MiniGrip heads for about 5 years now on travel doc work and they're great. Matthews is consistently reliable and this is just further proof of that. Love these.

Great Piece of Gear

Though I'm only a semi-pro videographer, these Mini Grip Heads have proven very useful as I expand my gear. They're very sturdy and can hold the large LED panels I use them for. Great way to reduce size/weight and maintain capabilities in setting up shots. The 3/8 rods and Mini Matthellinis that go with these are perfect complements.

Will use it

Will this hold a pocket flash like the AD200 with a small softbox - So roughly 5 or 6 lbs?
Asked by: Matt
It will hold 5~6 lbs, but it would be safer/easier using a regular grip head. This MiniGrip is made of plastic.
