Much of my photography consists of portraits. The diffuser softens the subjects features nicely and lends the shot an airy, whimsical quality. It is particularly helpful for close-ups and head-shots, where it often carries the added benefit of reducing the time I spend retouching defects in post editing. It's nicely made; I have several Hoya filters and they are of a consistently pleasing build quality. The only complaint I can mention is that the softening effect can be quite pronounced in certain circumstances and can appear heavy-handed if not employed properly. Occasionally I think the product may be easier to use if its effects were a bit more subtle.
