Sony EVI-D100 Overview

  • 1Description

The Sony EVI-D100 is a remote controlled Pan/Tilt/Zoom video camera that is compact and easy to use. The advanced CCD combined with a smooth and quiet pan and tilt mechanism give high quality and convenient video production for remote conferencing, remote education, training, surveillance, and webcasting. Additional advantages are provided by easy to use presets, daisy-chaining capability and various picture effects.

High Speed and Wide Range Pan and Tilt
The camera offers a pan range of +/- 100 degrees and maximum pan speed of 300 degrees per second. Tilt angle ranges +/- 25 degrees and maximum tilt speed 125 degrees per second. Because the camera uses a gearless mechanism, the result is a drastic reduction in motor interference compared to conventional models.
10 x Optical Zoom
The EVI-D100 incorporates a high quality 10 times zoom lens that, at its widest, offers 65 degrees of horizontal view. For even greater close-up images, the camera also has a 4x digital zoom feature.
Six Pre-Set Positions
The user may store up to 6 predetermined positions of the pan/tilt/zoom/focus for instant recall. The presets also include picture parameters like white balance and exposure features. A battery backup system insures the presets remain in memory even when the camera is powered down.
Special Effects
The EVI-D100 has the ability to render special effect images for a variety of production requirements. The special picture effects include mirror image, still image, pastel, negative/positive reversal, and high contrast.
Computer Control
The camera uses the industry standard RS-232C control protocol. The interface on the camera is an 8-pin that uses VISCA software. All the camera and pan/tilt settings can be controlled by a personal computer.

    Sony EVI-D100 Reviews

EVI-D100 1/4" CCD Remote Control Communications Camera is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 19.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from decent, dependable We use this as a remotely controled CCTV cam for our church's worship services. Mounted 70' back, we get it all, clean sharp images projected in the overflow space. Mounted high on the back wall, the joystick control was essential. it is not cheap. that's ok....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for our church We use this to record church services on DVD and to put on the website. It has 6 programmable preset positions and works great. This is the second one we have purchased. This replaced an identical one that we bought used a few years ago.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellet Cam! We use several of these for live streaming. It's nice to be able to mount them and control them remotely. The operation is extremely smooth, and the zoom gets you right in the action.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from nice camera remoted movements controller It's a great camera for the price but in low light situations doesn't work as I expected. but over all it is a good one.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable, tested design I bought this as a replacement for one that has been in use for over 5 years in a classroom environment. The other was dropped during a small renovation project; didn't fail on it's own. Professors and student alike find using the D100 intuitive, with good resolution and focus. Will need to switch to digital at some point soon, the that will require redesigning the entire system. Replacing the dependable camera was the most economic choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It does what I need I needed a simple S-Video camera for recording purposes. I works great.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not bad as a surveillance camera Using this as a conference room camera and it simply never gets a solid image focused. I've tried it through both its S-video and composite video connections and the images are never sharp. The rest, pan/tilt/zoom are excellent, just the fuzzy images are a disappointment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Affordable Robocam This little camera gives a good bang for the buck. We looked at a number of robotic cameras and the EVI-D100 is by far the most affordable. Features include composite and S-video outputs along with an IR remote control.

    question

can EVI-D100 1/4 CCD Pan/Tilt/Zoom/Focus Remote Control Communications Camera be used on mac?
    Asked by: Anonymous
While it is possible to get the video signal to a computer and it may be possible to control the camera with it, the fact of the matter is that in the long run, you will want a controller and a separate monitor for using a PTZ camera such as the EVI-D100.

    question

can it be used on mac?
    Asked by: Anonymous
While it would be possible, we recommend getting the proper controller and a separate monitor. In the end, you will see it is worth the extra money to do it that way.

    question

Does this camera comes with a remote control to zoom in and to follow the leader manually when needed?
    Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, it does. It's an infrared, so you have to be moderately close to the front of the camera - use a flasher system if your setup is different.

    question

Can I pre-set and forget the camera, turn on and off remotely, and hardwire download video to a laptop?
    Asked by: Richard W.
The camera has plenty of presets to program and pull the presets up via the remote. As far as capturing video on your computer goes, if you have a composite video card on you computer with capturing software you shouldn't have a problem. Normally we would take an output from a camera switcher/scaler controller to an IMac (has capturing capabilities). The camera is composite out.
