Ilford FP4 Plus 125 overview

  • 1Description

FP4 Plus from Ilford is a traditional medium-speed black and white negative film characterized by a fine grain structure with high acutance and sharpness, making it well-suited to enlarging and scanning. It has a nominal sensitivity of ISO 125/22° in standard chemistry, and its very wide exposure latitude enables exposing up to two stops under or six stops over while retaining usable results. In addition to general photographic applications, FP4 Plus is also an ideal choice for copy and internegative work, as well as scientific, technical, and industrial photography.

This item is one 100'-long roll of standard-perforation 35mm film designed for bulk loading applications.

Ilford FP4 Plus 125 reviews

FP4 Plus Black and White Negative Film (35mm Roll Film, 100' Roll) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 24.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good speed & contrast I hadn't shot FP4 since 1983, but thought I'd give it another try. As an inveterate Plus-X shooter, I figured that FP4 might give me similar tonality. I was right. It's very close, and is a more than acceptable substitute. Thus far, I've developed it in X-Tol (EI 125 1:1 for ten minutes at 68F) and in HC110 Dil B. Both worked well, but I'm leaning toward the X-Tol 1:1 because of the slight increase in contrast. Yes, I like this film very much. I like having edge numbers on a bulk roll - some don't have them (Fomapan, among others). Very smooth grain and very acceptable contrast with normal development. I can't wait to see what this looks like pulled!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great film, poor packaging Love the properties and qualities of this film, and since Plux-X is non-existent or hard to find anymore this is a perfect alternative. The thing I HATE about my most recent purchase of this film is the packaging. There's no can of any kind, the film is simply packaged loose inside a black plastic bag, like that you'd get paper in. Unfortunately, the bag isn't sealed in ANY way, and if you're not careful you can easily drop the roll right out of the bag ruining the whole roll. Come on, GIVE US A CAN, or at least seal the bag with some tape.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FP4 - a timeless classic It's a personal thing but FP4 is probably the best film ever made. No other film comes close to the tones and delicacy of FP4 - It's not the finest grain film, it's not the most sensitive but when you have the right lighting, the images from this product are sublime. If you haven't tried it, get a roll - develop in XTOL or D76 (don't bother with all other fancy and weird developers - I've tried them all....) and enjoy what black and white film is all about. WARNING.. Once you've used it, you'll be hooked.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Film! I use Ilford FP4 Plus for people photography. It's a great film for making fairly large prints, especially when using medium format film. Pricing and delivery are excellent with B&H. I highly recommending buying this film and using B&H for your supplier.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wow This film is amazing! I love the grain and smoothness of the mid tones. I soup it in Rodinal and its the perfect combo. I'd recomend this film all day.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from FP4 is a midspeed replacement for Plus-X Since the Sixties my midspeed, fine-grain B&W film was Kodak's Plus-X. Ilford's FP4 is my old-school B&W replacement. Good old-fashioned, it's a complement to Delta 100/Acros/TMX technology. FP4 supposedly has the greatest latitude of the midspeeds, develops well in a wide range of chemistries, traditional or modern. Unless K brings back Plus-X, FP4 is my new go-to.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful tone This BW film has a beautiful and classic look, perfect for portraits. I develop it mostly in HC-110 (dilution B) and it scans or wet print well with not too much grain. I also use it in 120 size for landscapes. Highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love this film I like the low grain of this picture. I have developed it with Ilfosol 3 and T-Max developer. I got excellent results with any of them. The film is good for scanning, which is important for me since I scan all of my negatives using an Epson V600 scanner. It keeps fairly flat in the scanner. I have not pushed it, but Ilford says it can be pushed to ISO 200.
