Leica M7 TTL .72 Rangefinder Camera (Black)

BH #LEM7B • MFR #10503
Key Features
  • Classic 35mm Rangefinder
  • Fast, Easy Manual Focus System
  • Easily Handheld at Slow Speeds
  • Extremely Bright Viewfinder
Born after 17 years of design, the Leica M7 TTL .72 Rangefinder Camera is a fantastic hybrid of classic Leica values with modern electronic advantages which results in a camera that's faster than ever yet still endowed with the 'soul' of a Leica. There's a certain feel to the mechanical operation of a Leica M's functions that's oddly satisfying in an emotional context, and this is the hallmark of the Leica brand. That feel has not changed, but instead been infused with aperture-priority autoexposure, an informative viewfinder, and high-speed TTL flash synchronization. The Leica M7 is as whisper-quiet, reliable, and easily focused as any Leica M camera, but now has the speed and control that only the modern accompaniments can give.

The M7's classic dimensions are identical to the M3 first introduced in 1954-a real testament to the brilliance of the design. This is a camera that's incredibly reliable and as quiet as they come, with a broad selection of available lenses in both the new and used markets. The M7 TTL, when used with Lecia-specific Metz flashes, can sync at up to 1/1000th second with TTL flash exposure control-a real improvement over prior models. The viewfinder, such an important part of the M experience, retains its classic brightness and framing lines but now unobtrusively adds information upon your shutter speed, the film speed, the exposure mode, and the flash readiness. The M7 now automatically recognizes the film speed, and provides aperture-priority autoexposure. It only needs two tiny button batteries which last a long time, but also has 1/60th and 1/125th manual shutter speeds if needed.

Broad Lens Availability

A large assortment of high-performance lenses is available, ranging from 21-135mm and with speeds as fast as f/1.0.

Solid Dependability

Extremely reliable performance, even under adverse conditions.

Quiet & Discreet

The electronically-controlled, rubberized cloth shutter is still remarkably quiet, yet as accurate as a modern vertical-travel metal shutter.

Fast & Flexible Flash Capability

Flash speeds of up to 1/1000th/second - with dedicated Metz flash units - give the Leica shooter the option of daylight fill-flash with large background-blurring apertures.

Classic Viewfinder with Electronic Upgrades

The improved viewfinder still displays classic framelines and manual metering, yet unobtrusively provides information on shutter speeds, film-speed setting, exposure mode & flash readiness along the bottom.

Adjustable-Brightness Viewfinder

Viewfinder information brightness is automatically adjusted to match ambient light conditions.

Auto Film Recognition

Recognizes DX film coding.

All-Mechanical Operation Option

Two all-mechanical shutter speeds of 1/60th & 1/125th/second are available, for batteryless performance.

Broad Range of Shutter Speeds

Stepless shutter speeds range from 1/1000th/second - 32 seconds in aperture-priority autoexposure mode, for quick adjustments with total control for the photographer.

Classic Styling

The M7 retains the classic Leica M proportions shared by the M3, M4 & M6 series cameras.

Leica M7 the best

So far I have not had a bad exposure on any frame shooting many rolls of film. The light meter is so right on leaving shutter speed in A mode makes it so much faster and easier. All you have to do is focus and make sure your shutter speed in the view finder is higher than your Lens focal length and you cant loose. The camera is comparatively light for an all metal camera, easy to carry around and doesn't offend most folks when you take their photo. Kind of like a M6TTL but smoother, quieter and nawer by dozens of years. It winds like a Rolex watch, plus smooth and all the detents are clear and light when you change settings. My best ever choice for a film camera and the lenses you use are superb.

It's a Leica!

Who wouldn't like it!? Seriously you just need to hold it once in your hand and you become addict of Leica... It's one of those that you buy once and never need another camera again, unless you want the digital Leica too that maybe bank-breaker... but it would be worth it! And after a while, like myself, I want more LOL which is more than just breaking your bank acc but ... hey if you see the work these machine can produce and you like the small light weight of 35mm camera... you won't say no!

I can't imagine investing this much in a digital camera that will be obsolete in three years. All of the greatest images you've ever seen in history (until recently) have been done with film. The Leica M7 is undoubtedly one of the finest 35mm film cameras ever made. I didn't buy mine as a collectors item. I shoot it regularly and the results are stunning. The rangefinder is so gorgeous to look through, and the actual process of making an image is so much more immersive and satisfying than a DSLR. Having the Aperture Priority mode makes this camera extremely quick and usable compared to the previous generation M6. It's really a camera you can work with discreetly, professionally, and quickly. It's a wonderful experience to own and shoot this beautiful camera. Don't miss it!

I would buy this product again and again

Great Camera. Great Design. Looks Great. Feels Great. Perfect for any application. Accurate exposure meter. Photographs made with it are clear sharp contrasty and perfectly exposed. I love it. I am so happy with it.

The MP/M-A are great cameras. Realistically the shutter lock and the quicker film winder is a smart choice. Also your going to get the same results from the three cameras.

Everyone knows Leica cameras are handmade, in Germany, and built like a tank. The M7 is a joy to hold and use and it can easily last a lifetime (as long as 35mm film is available). The M7 offers TTL metering, which works well, but I will say that the red LEDs can be difficult to read in bright conditions. You may not see the indicator dots or the shutter speed flashing at you if you are overexposed in Aperture Priority mode. Just keep your environment in mind and you'll be fine.
