Smith-Victor KQ-82 reviews

KQ82 2-Light 1,200 Watt Ultra Quartz Location Kit (120V) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good for the price This 2 light kit came with GE lamps, and one of them blew out within the first 3-5 minutes of operation. Luckily I had bought some generic Impact brand replacements with the orginal order and I just finished a 3.5 hour shoot where the lights ran continuously with no problems. I think these types of lamps are prone to going out more often so luckily they are cheap. I considered going the LED route, but it's so easy and cheap to replace the lamps in lights like these, and they put off a nice warm powerful light, so my move to LED will have to wait awhile. The stands are fine, certainly lightweight, but they are a bit flimsy, and pay attantion while moving the lights or the power cords as you could easily tug one of the lights over with just a small pull of the power cords. The mounting heads / screws where the lights attach to the top of the stands could be of better design, it's easy for them to spin if the set screw isnt tightened down hard, which then worries you that you might break them. One of the selling points of this kit for me was the soft roller case with the telescoping handle. The other Smith Victor kits come with a hard plastic case with wheels, but no telescoping handle so it's a bit awkward to actually use the wheels when traveling with that case. The soft case with this kit is a bit smaller though so packing / unpacking is a bit less convenient, and I cant give the kit 5 stars because the quality of the soft case was sub-par. Parts of the inner velcro dividers were already coming apart / un-stitched at the seams when I first received it, and the zippers are very cheap and dont slide smoothly. For the price it's fair, but not good, and to deliver anything, even a silly velcro divider for the case already falling apart is pretty bad for any company to not have a handle on their quality control.
