Rode NT5 Overview

The Rode NT5 is a matched pair of small diaphragm microphones featuring full frequency response and low-noise output circuitry. Designed for general instrument recording and sound reinforcement.

The cardioid polar pattern effectively minimizes audio at the off-axis sections, reducing noise caused by leakage, monitors, additional instruments, etc. The NT5 offers a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz allowing the microphones to be used in a wide variety of applications such as drum overhead miking, stereo capturing of instruments, vocal capturing, etc. The NT5 is powered via +24V or +48V phantom power. The package includes two windscreens and two mic clips.

Cardioid Pattern

The cardioid polar pattern is effective in minimizing off-axis noise due to leakage, additional instruments, room ambiance, etc.

Wide Frequency Response

The NT5 features a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz allowing the flexibility to capture accurately in any recording or sound reinforcement scenario.

These two mics have upped our setup significantly. We use for online church setup and these are great for our round table discussion and a little music. Crisp and clear sound. Very glad we made the purchase and excited to see the quality improvement of our videos.

Replaced my Rode NT3 for imndoor dialogue

Rode and online reviews recommend the NT5 over the NT3 for indoor dialogue, so I bought a matched pair to use with my Tascam 70D and DR40, and they perform as well since I hear no difference, but they are much smaller and lighter on a boom pole, use phantom power only, no on/off switch to forget, plus the XLR cable locks into them, which my NT3 did not.

Is this suitable for stereo Audio/Video recording in an X/Y arrangement?
Asked by: Nicholas
Yes. I ordered these mics specifically for stereo recording, and use them to record live music shows often. The stereo comes out really well, obviously dependent on the space and set-up. I've used the mics in both XY and ORTF configurations.Stereo Video recording is whole other matter... :)

Can I use the Rode NT5 (matched pair) for choir recording? Thank you.
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes, that is what I am using them for. They sound great even from a distance of 20 feet. This is quite remarkable considering our choir does not face the microphones, but rather face each other. Our choir is located in the back of the church in a balcony. I mounted them on the side pillars and angled them towards the choir.
