Korg microKORG overview

  • 1Description

The microKORG from Korg is a lightweight, portable synthesizer and MIDI controller keyboard, with 37 velocity sensitive miniature keys, serving the DJ and Techno markets. The small but intense footprint of the keyboard, and the provision for AA battery power, contribute to this keyboard's usefulness as a mobile, laptop composing and production tool. The LED illuminated selection buttons and display make live performance, in dark venues, significantly easier.

The microKORG is an analog modeling synthesizer with a large selection of waveforms, including a choice selection imported from one of Korg's classic digital synths, providing a unique, hybrid sound palette to choose from. The sound sources of this instrument include 2 Oscillator and Noise Generators, a multi-mode filter, 2 LFO's and 2 Envelope Generators, all of which may be interconnected by 4 Virtual Patch matrixes.

The microKORG is a viable master controller, with a large selection of assignable buttons and knobs. The pitch and modulation wheels, along with the 5 parameter control knobs, are real-time controllers, a welcome stage or studio performance feature.

The microKORG's built-ins include a Vocoder with a condenser microphone, an Arpeggiator, and a selection of modulation and delay effects, along with an equalizer. The flexible input structure and routing scheme of the keyboard allow for use of the microKORG as a sound processor of external microphone or line audio, with lots of unusual sonic possibilities. All of the built-ins are programmable, and the Vocoder features 16 dedicated programs, meant to demonstrate and exploit it's advanced power.

The microKORG is an innovative product that is packed with useful creative tools and features, and surprisingly affordable.

Note: The included power adapter is intended for 120VAC USA outlets. An appropriate adapter and/or step down transformer needs to be obtained separately for international use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from microKORG, Really its a MACRO KORG The microKORG is so very versatile, integration into any set up is simple and full of satisfaction. I use the microKorg as an integral piece in my Recording Studio, MPC/APC Production Station and my DJ System as well. So, I have two of these and a third available for my use any time. If you Create Music the microKorg is an Invaluable tool. Dub Step, Techno, Hip Hop and Electronica producers Get one. Great for movie sound producers. The QUALITY is top of the line every time. Awesome is as awesome does. Dno Bravo

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The most powerful mini synth around I can't believe how much power and potential is packed into this machine. Knowing that you can tweak and edit 128 individual sounds infinite ways (seriously, the combinations are only limited by what you stop at) was the biggest draw to this. I've heard of many professional acts who swear by the Microkorg, and it's obvious why: you simply can't beat what it offers in size, power, and price. Needless to say, I love mine!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Synth Under $1000 The vocoder is extremely easy to use, but, the coolest thing about the microKORG is just how versatile it is. The sounds that come out of it range from Church Organs to Daft Punk. It's also got MIDI capabilities as well. I use this for live shows and it brings the house down.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from microKORG by KORG I bought this keyboard for my husband who was wanting one for soooo long. He absolutely loves it and spends hours upon hours making music. It has great sound and easy easy to use if you are not too familiar with synth machines. great all around value!!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GET this poly synth machine Pros: TOO MANY Cons: small keyboard.. The Bottom Line: if you want to PLAY with UNLIMITED sounds, BUY IT. but be patient.. this is not another casio toy. this is based on ANALOG synths of many decades ago, and it is POLY, which means you can press many keys at once to play chords, it is not a mono device. it uses semi decent dsp digital chips, that, in the final run , give you very close to ANALOG synth sounds, and Great FLEXIBILITY. if you carefully see the specs.. this tiny thing is surprisingly SIMILAR to their far more expensive MS 2000 analog synth !! microkorg has 128 preset sounds, but wow oh wow... those knobs , let you EDIT the heck out of them, so you can create your own sounds to no end ! perhaps a far cousin to the famed NIkon F 70 camera, this is a similar story.. YOU need PATIENCE, and get a paper notebook and pen, and write down some of those settings ! it is mainly for experimentation. you can try things here, that you only dreamt of.. UNBELIEVABLE FLEXIBILITY. they call it analog MODELING synth for this reason. i dont recommend the WRITE FUNCTION.. that erases the pre programmed sound to replace it with your sound. so, just write down the settings, and you can pretty much duplicate it.. within a minute. you will need PATIENCE,and at least 20-40hrs Practice till you begin to understand the depths of this machine. if you are Already into synths, in only a few hrs you should get the hang of it.. but even if you are a newbie (with patience),.. you will have so much FUN !!! output is stereo of course. KEYS ARE TINY , if you have HUGE hands, GOOD BYE and sayonnara.... if you have tiny hands, you will go ape over this machine with never-ending adventures ! i actually got a good piano sound, and a helicopter sound in total of about 40mins of playing around.. by the 3rd session.. ( 4-5 hrs into learning this machine ) i ALSO USE the zoom R24 8 input recorder...with this, to create Layer after layer of sound ( much like enya...) and in final mixdown wow...awesomeness... JOY oh joy of creation. if you want similar power, but have little patience, and yearn for presets, and need instant repeatability, use the OTHER KORG machines, like the Triton, etc etc. this machine is made to sit down, have FUN and Experiment with ! it has 2 audio in, and midi in, out and thru...NO usb... of course, one can get pretty serious and stick in another identical or different KORG machine in series, or a guitar or two mics, etc etc... and PROCESS the OUTPUT of one machine, by playing with the 2nd machine too !!!! Wave shaping and molding to no end .. n o LI MITS to imagination ! it has a (vocoder ) condenser type mic too..( defeatable too ) and you can sound like Darth Vader.. or just let water drip into your sink, and reshape that waveform !! their manual/ book must be kept aside at all times. too much to read, and you cant mesmerize it all ! arpegiator is very useful...not just on or off...can be bit more complex for those with creativity....your option ! prices have come down to half from original usd 500 so this is a good time to get it...before it stops !!! i find this , better than their xl version too.
