Behringer MDX4600 overview

  • 1Description

The MULTICOM PRO MDX4600 from Behringer provides four channels of Interactive Knee Adaptation (IKA) compression/limiting, housed in a single rack space chassis. A peak limiter on all channels helps prevent clipping of the audio source.

Each compressor features program dependent attack and release times with a switchable side-chain filter to help with bass dominated compression. Channels 1/2 and 3/4 can be switched as independent pairs for stereo operation and accurate metering and professional connections provide extensive processing power.

Program adaptive compression circuitry (IKA) combines the advantages of both hard and soft knee characteristics
Compression characteristics switchable between IKA and hard knee characteristics
Interactive gain control peak limiting circuitry combines clipper and program limiter for reliable and inaudible protection against signal peaks
Switchable high-pass filter in the control signal path prevents "pumping" due to low-frequency dominated compression
Stereo couple function for channels 1 & 2 and 3 & 4 selectable with real totaling RMS output
Accurate 8-segment LED meters for input/output levels and gain reduction
High quality detented potentiometers and backlit switches
Operating level switchable from +4dBu to -10dBV
Servo balanced inputs and outputs with gold-plated XLR and 1/4" TRS connectors

    Behringer MDX4600 reviews

MDX4600 MULTICOM PRO-XL 4 Channel Dynamics Unit is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great features for a good price This compressor unit performs its job very well! It has been a life saver in my little church! Two of these units allow me to compress the vocals and guitars, as well as use two channels as limiters for the main signals. The only thing that causes me to give this unit four stars is with its user friendly-ness. Since this was my first time using a compressor, I would have been thoroughly confused and frustrated without the assistance of professionals who walked me through Compressor 101! If this is your first time using a compressor, ASK FOR HELP from professionals who know!! It'll save you a great deal of headache! Plus, once you've mastered Compressor 101, you will really enjoy and appreciate the functionality and features that are packed in this little unit!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have five of these Community theatre tech here. I tried a dynamics unit this year and quickly decided I'll never do a show without one. Using this, I can reduce gain in signals below a specified threshold. This silences microphones that are nearby an actor doing a solo. I can also reduce gain above a certain threshold which is helpful since most actors speak at a different volume from which they sing at, and sing high notes loudly. I've placed each microphone on one channel of a MDX4600, then grouped the microphones together and placed the group on an MDX4600 as well so that I can compress the result in case the actors all sing together. Using these techniques I've drastically reduced the number of cues in my show, and also improved audio quality. I barely have to touch the mix at all.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Foundation for Podcasting I produce Internet radio shows and podcasts. Sound quality is essential. I need the thickness that professional radion stations have. The MDX4600 gives me this. At first I was afraid because everyone was saying how difficult it is to set up. Then I looked at YouTube videos and found resources that walked me through. It wasn't difficult to set up, in my opinion. And I've never set something like this up before.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Great! I purchased this to remove any hissing background noise before it hits the mixer and works great. Basically anything under the voice sound is filtered out.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for podcasters This piece is a must for podcasters. Although the user manual is somewhat obscure if you're not used to the lingo, it is very useful to know about what compression and limiting can do to enhance the audio quality of any podcast. I use single channels for microphones and skype audio, and run final stereo mix back through two channels before recording. It has improved the quality of my podcast immensely. Again the user manual could have given more thought to the novices out there, but again, good guides to setting it up are only a Google search away.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Podcaster's Dream Podcasting is filled with unexpected highs and lows of sound and noise to say nothing about heavy breathers and laughter while recording your program. The Behringer is a must have for all serious recordings. This device makes you sound better than you are!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have Equipment for Podcasters When interviewing guests for my weekly podcast, you have to have a way to control each headset. The Behringer performs flawlessly!
