Impact Multiboom Overview

The Impact Convertible Boom Arm/Light Stand can support a small or medium light head to a height of 13'. Raise the second section completely, click, and it is a boom stand. As a boom, it can hold a small light head to an extension of almost 3' from the center of the stand.

It is a reflector holder by means of its two clips, which can support an Impact, Flexfill, or Photoflex light disc as large as 60".
A hole at the end of the arm allows an optional counterweight to be hung, for greater stability.

Using as a Boom Stand
  1. Loosen the large long handle in the middle of the stand.
  2. Loosen the top-most section of the stand. Pull that section all the way up.

Every food/product photographer should have at least a couple of these stands! They easy to set up and can hold basically any kind of backdrop or reflector with the included clips.

I highly recommended this product. Shipping was fast. I was able to test it out with my strobe lightning and reflector. Did not see anything broken or missing pieces. It is strong and sturdy and good for outdoor with sand bag.

Pay a boom operator or buy a piece of equipment that can hold the mic for you? You choose. It also extends out very far, definitely a good buy for a studio. Plus you don't need to buy a boom pole separately because you can take the arm off. Two for one deal.

Needs counterweight

I like the stand. It’s good for the money but expect them to last. I have broken several Impact light stands in the past. They’re good if need a stand in the water/mud because I don’t care if I damage them. This particular model needs a counterweight if you are working by yourself and will tip over easily if a speedlite and beauty dish are attached. That wasn’t a surprise and it’s not a fault of the design. It’s just that this product needs sandbags/counterweight to get the most money out of it. I would have liked to see air cushioning but it’s not a deal breaker.

Absolute JUNK

One of the great life lessons is you get what you pay for, and that is what I should have thought of before wasting $80 on this garbage. I know that Impact isn't great, but after purchasing this stand I will never buy another Impact product. Upon arrival one of the clamps was busted due to a manufacturer's defect (the clamp doesn't close all the way) and B&H said that I would need to return the thing (with me paying for shipping). I had a gig the next day that I absolutely needed this for so I used the stand anyway and Jimmy-rigged the thing in a way to squeeze my reflector in between the two clamps. Then, almost expectedly, THE STAND WILL NOT HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE REFLECTOR. That's right - the arm will not tighten up enough to provide the very function of what it's designed to do.

Solid, light, with lots of options

This is a basic stand with the addition of several nice features. It folds down into the same size as a standard light stand, but the book and reflector clips provide a wide range of configurations in which it can be set up. it is a little smaller and lighter than other Impact light stands, but it still feels solid.

Easy to use, versatile stand

This stand is easy to set up for use. I have used it to hold up a pop-up background, but it also can be set up horizontally to hold a larger backdrop.

question

The bottom collar on this lightstand has broken. I purchased a Porta Stand PS-3 collar to replace it but it's 1/8 too small in diameter for both the lower and upper leg sections. Are there any replacement parts available?

To obtain the replacement part you need, it would be best to contact Impact directly for assistance. The following link would be to their contact information: http://bit.ly/1g7INv4

question

Will this stand hold on the horizontal end a Westcotte Strobelite Plus monolight and soft box ?
Asked by: Daniel
Instructions for Using This Stand as a Boom 1. Loosen the large long handle in the middle of the stand. 2. Loosen the top-most section of the stand. Pull that section all the way up. 3. Pull! - swing it horizontally for the boom feature, and lock it for the desired setup. These instructions are misleading. The instructions in #2 should say: Loosen the section JUST ABOVE the large long handle.......

Can you take out the clip from the end and put it on the other end of the boom arm? I am trying to put a reflector so that the weight is equally balanced on both sides - specially when I do not need to extend it.
Asked by: Sushanta
I haven't tried that. You can unscrew the knob and pull the bolt holding the clip and then take the clip off as far as I can tell.

question

I can see that the boom can be configured at 90 degrees, and I am wondering if it is possible to have the reflector end of the boom angled downwards, with the other end angled up? Thanks for any insights!
Asked by: melanie m.
The clips on this boom stand can be rotated a full 360 degrees, so you can have one angled downward while the other end is angled up.

question

If attaching a speedlite, will an accessory be necessary?
Asked by: Robert H.
The end of the boom has a standard 5/8 light stand stud with a 1/4 screw. If you want to attach a speedlight, you will need to first attach something to the stud or 1/4 screw. The most common products for this is are a radio receiver, a cold shoe or a long off camera flash cable. Whichever you use, check to be sure it has a 1/4 tap for attaching to the 1/4' screw.

An attached Softbox to your Led fixture would be the Best choice, the setup you're mentioning would be somewhat ok, but not perfect due to the many variables inherent in that type of setup.
