BoomMate BOBPH reviews

BPH Microphone Boom Pole Holder is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Quick and easy to use We use the Boom Mate as shown, to hold our Gitzo boom poles on corporate shoots. It's sturdy, easy to mount and allows for quick release of the pole. There are two main faults: The axial center of gravity is not directly over the bar, so when you loosen the grip head to change the angle, the weight of the boom pole rotates the boom mate at right angles to the long axis. This is a problem as it can cause the boom pole to fall out of the mate. The second thing is the plastic sleeve around the bar of the boom mate. After a couple of times having the sleeve clamped tight by the grip head, the plastic material starts to deteriorate, and eventually falls off. But overall, it is a useful device, if a little over priced.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Quick and Convenient This is great to hold a boom pole. It makes set up time so much quicker. It is solid steel. It will no doubt survive numerous shoots. It balances the boom with very little effort. It solidly holds the height of the boom pole. The one down side is that it will not prevent a rotation of the boom pole. It has to be positioned perfectly to not rotate. It is increadibly easy for my mic in a zeppelin to rotate and point directly upwards. I'd rather the mic be pointed at my subject/talent.I figured something like a clamp, tie, or even tape will prevent the potential roation problem.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The best investment I've ever made? Ok, this might be an exaggeration... but among the ton of gear I manage I can't think of a single better problem-solver than this boom holder. Yes, the price is steep, but after two days you'll be so glad you've got it. If you think you need a counterbalance weight you're using it wrong - the boom pole is held in place by its own imbalance and inclination to tip over. The only weight you need is a sand bag on your C-stand, but you already know how to safely use a C-stand.. A note - for truly high-end productions and various situation, this is NOT a replacement for an experienced boom operator. Even in a sit-down interview, if your talent moves (looking behind their back, downward, etc.) you'll get off-axis sound, something that a professional boom op should prevent.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Boom Mate The Boom Mate does exactly what you expect from it. It holds the boom pole rather well. I like that it is longer than my last pole holder I think that spreads the pressure of the load points. It is well built and attractive. The only con is that you must make sure that the pole is extended far enough to keep it from popping up and out of the holder. So you can either make sure its extended far enough, strap it in with a bongo strap or change physics and gravity.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Boompole Holder I'm new to this kind of product, it's the first time I'm using a Boompole Holder, and it took a bit of trial and error to find out how to clamp it in my Matthews Hollywood Gear Head. I was surprised to find out that the Boompole Holder slipped in the larger hole of the Gear Head, and that I had to clamp it in the smaller hole. I also had to find out, which way up, front, and back. The rubberized part of the Boompole Holder forms the back, with the back hook on top, forming an inversed U-shape, and the front part of the holder sticking out way up front, with the hook at the bottom, forming an upright U-shape. And you definitely want to put the head+ Boompole Holder on top of a C-Stand, with one 'leg' sticking out in the direction of your boompole, and not putting the whole on top of a regular light stand, because it has a lot of weight to lift! Then I put the Boompole in, and the Boompole Holder holds it perfectly well! Great product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from seems handy I must agree, this product is very handy for interview situations. It is MUCH easier to have a boom set up before your talent gets to the shoot, and at the same time it is far less invasive than running a Lav up someone's shirt who you've never met! Not a good first impression to be making on people! Oh, AND you don't have to pay someone to hold a boom pole for hours on end. Buy this thing ONCE for the same price that you would hire a boom operator for a DAY, and this thing just paid for itself!!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic! It doesn't get tired. It doesn't need smoking breaks. It doesn't complain about how early call time was. it takes the place of person who would normally hold a boom pole perfectly!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Boom Pole Holder - So You Don't Have To This product is sturdy and very durable, perfect for holding a boom pole with a mic attachment. The recommended weight limit is a great guideline to follow, but so far I've been unable to exceed the limit with the numerous microphones and boom poles at my disposal. This product works best in conjunction with a C-stand.
