Leica MP Overview

With the name MP, the new Leica rangefinder camera joins the line of reporter cameras that have been tailored specifically to the wishes of professional photographers. It is the purely mechanical alternative to the LEICA M7, whose electronically controlled shutter and aperture priority automatic exposure control offer more convenience and functions.

The camera concept of the LEICA MP is tailored to the craft of the photographer! Every component of the camera was analyzed and improved meticulously, and it embodies the essence of more than 50 years of experience in optics and mechanical design. The optimized rangefinder facilitates highly accurate focusing, even under difficult light conditions.

The MP is a 100% mechanical camera, the battery being necessary only to operate its internal light meter. All its operating elements are made of metal, so that it withstands heavy duty use under extreme conditions. Technical gadgetry is purposely limited to those features that truly contribute towards creating a better picture.

Viewfinder is always bright - even in low light
Large assortment of high performance lenses ranging from 21 to 135mm and speeds as fast as f/1

Leica MP Reviews

The best camera for me

I've been wanting this camera since like 10 years back. Initially I really want to get an M7 because of one movie. Later the goal changed to an MP. I indeed received the camera at my Dad's birthday. We celebrate for him together and take a couple of photos with the MP. It looks great. The viewfinder really surprise me. The only disadvantage for me now is that I only had a Summilux-m 75/1.4 (I decided to get this one as the first lens after a little research. It's really hard for me to focusing with the 0.72x. Definitely need to get a magnifier soon.

Leica MP is simply the best, there is no way around it. However, buying my first Leica with BHphoto is probably the best decision I’ve had. I had experience with Adorama but BHphoto customer service is far superior. No return return fees (Adorama does make you pay return fees), exchange/return convenience, and fast shipping. If you decide between the two, BHphoto would be the best option as it gives you a peace of mind knowing that they will take care their customer. I had an issue with the first order and had to exchanged it. I called them and explained the situation and they exchanged it with no questions asked. Simply the best customer service by far. It reminds me of REI customer service (if you live in PNW you’ll know what I’m talking about). They have a customer for life. Thank you, BHphoto!

What does the meter display in the viewfinder? ...

What does the meter display in the viewfinder? Does it display the arrows and dot like with the m10 in manual mode? Or does it indicate the aperture, like with the Canon AE systems?
Asked by: Samuel
It has LEDS (Light Emitting Diodes). Two triangular and one circular LED: • Jointly used as light balance for exposure compensation, • Left triangular LED used as a warning if below the metering range.

The Leica MP 0.72 Analog Rangefinder Camera Body is a film camera that uses 35mm film. To upload images to Instagram, you would first have to have the film developed, then scan the negatives to be placed on a CD-ROM. You may then use the digitized images on the CD to upload to your computer. You may then either use your computer to upload images to Instagram, or you may transfer the images from your computer to your smartphone/tablet to upload to Instagram.

How often does the battery for the light meter ...

How often does the battery for the light meter have to be replaced? Is the battery readily available for purchase?
Asked by: Soon-Yong
The Leica MP 0.72 35mm Film Rangefinder Camera uses two (2) SR44(76S) 1.55v Silver Battery or one (1) DL76 Lithium battery to power the camera. Depending on the camera's usage, the battery should last between 6 months to a year on average. That being said, as the camera is all mechanical and only the internal light meter is powered by the camera's battery, the camera is still able to be operated without a battery.
