RRF4 Four Space Rackrail is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from 4 Stars, RRF4 Rackrail - Middle Atlantic I have retired as machinist with 20 years of experience. I was not thrilled when I could not find a drilled rack rail. These only come with punched holes and then tapped for 10/32 screws. When drilling and tapping a hole for 10-32 screws, typically a 5/32 (.156 Dia.) drill is used. A Perfectly round drilled hole will give you 75% of thread. Percentage of thread is very important. As the % decreases, the screw will not hold and will become loose in the hole, sometimes the threads can be pulled out when tightening the screws. Because these rails are only 1/8 (.125) thick, There are only 4 threads in the hole to hold your rack gear. When punching a hole for for a 10-32 screw, there is Blow out on the exit side of the hole. Please see the attached photo, the exit side of the puched holes is shown. When you inspect a punched hole, you would see about 3/4's of its depth is cut round and the other 1/4 always looks torn, it is also egg shaped and distorted. This deformed egg shaped hole reduces the number of threads in the hole, because the diameter is basically missing & too big for a tap to cut threads. These rack rails were the best I could find, as everything now is made in china. The holes are not burr free and they did not chamfer them prior to tapping or painting. The quality is just OK, the paint is blotchy, but once you load the rails up, you will never see the imperfections. You get what you pay for. My suggestion is to by these, dont buy cheaper ones available. As price goes down so does quality.
