Canon Extension Tube EF II Overview

The result of using extension tubes is that the distance from the back of the lens to the film surface is longer, which means you can take photographs at shorter distances to the subject. Extension tubes are thus commonly used for macro photography and sometimes for closeup portraits.

When using the camera's TTL metering system, no exposure compensation will be required (exposure compensation is required for handheld meters).

This updated version II is now also fully compatible with Canon Digital EF-S lenses, as well as standard photo EF and TS-E lenses.

Extension Tube EF 12 II is especially suited for close-focusing with wide-angle lenses. Compatible with all lenses, except 15mm f/2.8 fisheye, 14mm f/2.8L and MP-E 65mm f/2.8.

More specifically, will an extension tube make my fisheye lens wider?
Asked by: Tanner
An extension tube such as this would only short the focusing distance of a lens and would not change the focal length.

Will this add some vignetting to my rokinon 8mm fisheye?
Asked by: Tanner
I only use the extension tube with Canon lenses at or above 50 mm of focal length. With an 8 mm lens the vignetting is almost guaranteed.

question

How is this extension going to affect my 24-105 f4, mounted on a 5D mk II? I will be doing jewelry photography and trying to figure out if I need to invest in a macro lens vs modifying the one mentioned above. Thank you! Still figuring it all out, I hope the question makes sense :)
Asked by: Anonymous
I'm afraid I have only used the extension tubes with macro lenses and the effect was to increase the magnification. I'm not sure if that will be the same effect for non-macro lenses.

question

Can I use this extension tube with a Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM on full frame a DSLR without a vinaigrette effect?
Asked by: Anonymous
Technically you could mount the extension tube between the APS-C format lens you have and your full-frame camera, however we do no regularly encourage this combination as it will cause vignetting and will not be useful with the lens you mentioned above.

question

i recently purchase a efs10-22mm and thinking about adding Extension Tube EF 12 II would this extension allow less light in and what effect good or bad will it have on images?
Asked by: Don M.
You would not lose much light using the Canon Extension Tube EF 12 II on the Canon 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 EF-S USM lens. The effect the extension tube would have on your image is you would lose infinity focus, however, it would allow you to focus closer on your subject for higher magnification for macro or close-up photography needs.
