To determine which Nikon diopter is best suited for you, it is recommended to consult your eye care professional. Nikon SLR and DSLR cameras without built-in adjustable eyepiece correction have a base diopter value of -1. -1 is considered the optimum starting point for the majority of SLR or DSLR users with normal vision. No combination of that -1 base value and a diopter's value is required to arrive at the final desired value. In other words, if you require a diopter of +2, simply add a +2 diopter to your camera.

Nothing much to say, it just works.

If you wear glasses, the only choice on Nikon pro bodies.

Used on a D500, D800, D4, D810... the only choice for people wearing glasses (Allow you to take a shot without glasses). As far as I am concerned it help me composing my shot better than with glasses on, especially the selection of AF points. A must in my books. I believe the item is available in different correction (+/-) to accommodate everyone.

My eyes have gone past what I can adjust on my D800. This fixed the problem nicely.

Has my sight is not too good, the basic dioptric correction in my Nikon D4 was not sufficient. the DK17C allowed me to increase that correction and have an accurate view of my subject through the viewfinder. An essential accessory for short sighted people in my opinion.

I have not yet put this on my new D800, but I've used Nikon diopters in the past on other Nikon bodies and they're superb.

Great addition!

If you wear glasses this is a must have. With the stock eyepiece when I took off my glasses I couldn’t adjust the diopter to be in focus. With this addition I can achieve perfect diopter focus with or without my glasses. It’s as simple as calling your eye doctor and getting the proper /-!

Diopter for those needing more than the built-in correction

Aging eyes are part of life. Nikon provided built-in correction to all of their prosumer and professional cameras. The problem is that those with older eyes need more than the diopter correction provided by the camera. The DK17C -3.0 diopter allows for photographers that wear glasses to get a clearer sight picture through the viewfinder. Most people won't require the -3.0 correction on top of the camera built-in correction, but all you have to do is use the camera adjustment to get that just right view. Would have loved if I could have coupled this diopter with the DK17M , magnifying diopter, but alias, you can't stack them together.

If I get one that is stronger than I need, can I use the camera's diopter to fine tune it so it's the correct strength?
Asked by: Jeff
Yes, if one uses the Nikon DK-17C -3.0 Correction Eyepiece, and it is stronger than what one needs, one may be able to use the camera's diopter to fine tune it to the correct strength, assuming that one's eyes are compatible with the corrections.
