Key Features
  • Minimize Reflections and Glare
  • Reduces Haze and Blue Cast in Landscapes
  • Enhances Color and Tonal Saturation
  • 49mm Front Filter Threads
The Heliopan 49mm Circular Polarizer SH-PMC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. A circular polarizer differs from a linear polarizer in that it supports full use of a camera's autofocus and auto exposure functions.

Heliopan SH-PMC Circular Polarizer Overview

The Heliopan 49mm Circular Polarizer SH-PMC Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. This results in a noticeable increase in the saturation of skies and foliage, as well as clearer imagery when photographing in hazy conditions. A circular polarizer differs from a linear polarizer in that it supports full use of a camera's autofocus and auto exposure functions.

The SH-PMC multi-coating provides a total of 16 coatings, 8 per side, for significant reflection reduction (below 0.2%) as well as dust and moisture repellence for easier cleaning.

This Heliopan filter is constructed from Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. It features a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface.
Arrange and filter directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light allowing for the absorption of much of the light.
Lessens haze in distant landscapes and provides more saturated, vivid colors.
Strongest effect when used at a 90° from the sun.
SH-PMC multi-coating offers both protection to the glass and helps to improve light transmission and image quality.
Constructed from Schott glass for optical clarity.
Brass filter ring helps to prevent jamming and provides additional strength.
Dual threading with 49mm front filter threads permits combining with other filters.

Heliopan SH-PMC Circular Polarizer Reviews

A bit thick

Returned this only because the frame is fairly thick and vignettes at 16mm. Otherwise an excellent CPL in terms of construction and image quality.

Knock's out the glare!

Paired this with the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM Lens. This is a great polarizer. Heliopan uses Zeiss glass and you can see it in the image quality thats produced. Flaring is greatly reduced and you can take clear pictures of subjects behind glass panes that are full of glare from the sun. If you are looking for a polarizer this is it!

Amazing build quality and index markings are very useful. One word of caution, I use this with a Leica M f2.0 35mm lens, the lens shade wiil not attach with this polarizer. I have exchanged for the slim version of this filter.

Highest Quality There Is

I own B&W filters, Singh Ray filters, Lee and on and on. This is my first Heliopan. Not easy to push the order button on a circular polarizer for over $ when perfectly good and functional ones are available for much less. However, the build quality, the glass quality, the numbers on the edge of the filter enabling repeatable settings make this filter well worth it.So why didn't I give it 5 stars? One reason only. The case it comes in leaves a bit to be desired and forces you to buy a filter case. For the money, it should be better than a plastic case with a less than pristine backing material.

I am just an amateur hack, but I appreciate equipment that is built and functions well. This filter is a joy to use. I don't leave home without it.

High Priced But Worth It

If you spend a high dollar amount on your camera and your lenses, why put inferior filters on that equipment. Excellent quality filter.

Lens cap does not fit the filter size

outside diameter smaller than the Leica 28/5.6 lens. Can not use the lens cap when this filter is on.

question

Hi,What is the main difference between this filter and Heliopan 46mm High-Transmission Circular Polarizing Multi-Coated Filter ?I see that the filter factor for this one is between 2.3 and 2.8For the High-Transmission version is 2.0. That means more quality for the High-Transmission one.Do both of them feature the index markings on the edge of the filter ring ?The High-Transmission one doesn't have a slim mount, does it ?!And one last question: do they have the same glass and coating ?Kind regards !
Asked by: Anonymous
The main difference between the Multi-coated Heliopan 46mm Circular Polarizer and the 46mm High Transmission Circular Polarizer is the filter factor; the high transmission CP will have a filter factor of one stop, where the multi-coated has a factor of approximately 1.3 stops. Both filters feature index markings. The high transmission CP does not have a slim mount. Both filters have the same 16-layer coating, and are both produced from Schott glass.
