Sony CPA9C reviews

CPA-9C Car Cassette Adapter is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 88.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not waste your money on this one! I purchased the CPA-9C over other brands because I have owned a Sony CPA-3C cassette adapter for 16 years. The CPA-3C has worked, without flaw, in every cassette player I have ever tried it in. It still works. I just needed a second one. In my Lexus, the sound sounds like it is being played under water. In my Ram the sound is muffled to about half volume. I would have returned it had I not thrown the packaging away before testing it. I just assumed that 16 years of technology would have turned out as good, if not better, product. P.S. I would have rated this product with no stars but I wanted to make sure everybody is aware that I did not forget to give it a rating.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good clear sound Having an older car without any access for external devices, I bought the Sony CPA-9 cassette adapter. I use it with an ipod and also my iphone, to play Pandora radio. I find it has a good clear sound, good signal level, and the fidelity is great; no distortion or other problems. There is a low level of mechanical noise that is not noticable when the music is playing, but can be heard between songs. This is because the cassette mechanism is running in the car radio while the device is operating, but I don't consider it to be any problem at all. I rate this as a good buy at the low price I paid for it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Best Cassette adapter, doesn't auto-flip I had the older model of the CPA Sony car adapter, and it lasted for many years... Then the cord near the adapter plug frayed. So I had to buy two more (non-Sony) adapters, and they wouldn't work... they kept auto-flipping in my cassette player. I should have just ponied up for a Sony to begin with instead of switching to another brand (esp. when the Sony one worked fine for years.) So without further ado, this Sony works flawlessly. Great sound, and it doesn't auto-flip. Great product. I would give it 5 stars, but the place where my older one frayed doesn't look to be fortified.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Better than xmitters, not without faults Just like every other audio player to cassette adapter the Sony CPA-9C is easy to use and convenient as they come. The sound quality is good, with the usual gear turning audible and soft hiss present in the background. Turn up the input volume from your player and lower the volume of your car stereo to reduce the noise. The highs tend to become uncontrolled and lows become muffled, for the casual listener it's not too much to worry about. There are two quibbles, the cassette cannot be loaded in a deck where the bottom faces away from you. Also, after several hours of use (and use in another compatible deck) the device errors out of the deck in both vehicles. This happens spontaneously, from being very infrequent to sometimes in a problematic repeat fashion. The will cooperative for a short time, get spit out by the deck(s), and play once again only to get tossed back out once more. As this problem isn't a constant day to day thing, as of yet, it is still livable and serves its purpose. I would still take this adapter over an FM transmitter in regards to the slew of troubles the wireless counterpart offers.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from CPA-9C Car Cassette Adapter Works Great Simple and functional...the CPA-9C Car Cassette Adapter Works as promisied. It goes in to the car tapedeck, just like a regular cassette tape. There is a long wire attached from the back end of the cassette to a 1/8 stereo plug. I like the long cord because if the kids in the back want to use their MP3 player, the plug reaches them. I mostly keep the cord up front, and keep it neatly tied up with a twist tie. I use the adapter for the phone/GPS, so I can amplify the sounds on these devices, which helps me stay hands free while driving. I have had the CPA-9C Car Cassette Adapter for a few weeks now, and it works perfectly...a very welcome addition to the car, especially during long drives...and a perfect compliment to a smart phone.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than an FM transmitter Bought this to connect an mp3 player to my car stereo. I had been using an FM transmitter, but with mixed results. This car adapter is much, much, much better (and a fraction of the price)! Sound quality is a dramatic improvement over the FM transitter. No problems with using it in either of 2 cars - both of which have auto-reverse tape decks. No issues with it getting stuck. No mechanical noise when using it one car, and very slight mechanical noise in the other car. But the noise in inadible when the music is playing. Build quality is solid, and cord is plenty long. A great and inexpensive solution.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Definitely worth the $$$ Replaced an ITrip IPod FM transmitter with the CPA-9C for use in a factory stereo and the difference in sound quality is huge. Aside from some very minor squeaking associated with the cassette mechanism which I think is inherent to these types of devices, this unit is exactly what I expected it to be. You only hear the squeak between songs and during quieter passages. Great sound quality, decent build quality, and a long cord to connect to my IPod is all I needed...what more could you expect from a device like this? It does exactly what it was made for and is far better than an FM transmitter.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great solution at last. Don't know why I waited so long to try this device. I've used nice expensive earphons to listen to my music and audio books (not good when you have to switch to cell earpiece to answer a phone call). I've also used blu-tooth enabled head gear and RF type devices that need constant attention to frequecy changing or pairing (I drive alot). A cheap solution was right there in front of me. It's also been around for awhile. The CPA-9C cassette adaptor is now what I use. The sound quality and fidelity is unmatched (except of course the expensive earphones). Very saitisfied with this device.
