Sennheiser HD 650 Overview

The HD 650 from Sennheiser are reference-class stereo headphones designed to deliver a true audiophile experience with an open, natural sound. Specially developed acoustic silk was used to provide uniform attenuation over the entire area of each ear-cup. The lightweight aluminum voice coils ensure a remarkable transient response, while the full-range drivers offer a frequency response of 10 Hz to 39.5 kHz. Great care was taken to ensure the headphones are comfortable with their elliptical design, which naturally adapts to the shape of the ear.

The HD 650 utilizes a 9.8' detachable cable made from a highly conductive OFC copper with low handling noise and low structure-borne sound sensitivity. The headphones can be used with high-output mobile devices and excel with high-quality stationary hi-fi components such as SACD, DVD-A, and CD players. The HD 650 ships with the detachable cable and a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter.

  • Systems with narrow tolerances (±1 dB), hand-picked in pairs
  • High-quality titanium / silver finish
  • Specially developed acoustic silk for precise, uniform attenuation over the entire area
  • Specially modulated connecting cable (detachable) made from highly conductive OFC copper, with very-low handling noise
  • Extremely lightweight aluminum voice coils ensure excellent transient response
  • Comfortable to wear due to elliptical design adapted to the shape of the ears
  • Can be directly connected to stationary hi-fi components of the highest quality, in particular SACD, DVD-A, and CD players

Sennheiser HD 650 Reviews

Great Quality

I had these headphones about 10 years ago when I was doing music production. I moved away from music production when I started working in film and video and sold them. I recently decided to get back into music again as a creative outlet. After research, these came up. I don't have a huge space to set up another studio in my apartment, so I wanted something I could mix/monitor with w/o having to buy speakers and a wider desk. These came up multiple times in my search to my surprise. I bought them again. Still great!

The Dependable Choice

My HD600s finally bit the dust after 20 years of constant use. I loved them so much that all I wanted was a direct replacement. The HD650s are pretty much the same (as in PERFECT). The fit is super comfortable and the sound processing is non-intrusive and spacious. It may not have enough bass response for some tastes in modern music, but orchestral stuff really shines. I'm hoping for another 20 years of pleasure from these.

Great, some room for minor improvements

Bought these to upgrade some cheap Audio-Technica cans. The sound is clear, natural, and seems pretty flat/unhyped. It's sort of a the last 10% kind of improvement. Not excitingly noticeable until you go back to something else. They're super comfy to wear for hours in a row. I really like the earcup material - it feels substantial and they keep the speaker grille well off my ears. It seems like it would be nice to have a bit wider padding above the head to spread the weight out a bit. Kudos for the little notch in the headband padding for hanging them on a hook without smashing it down. As others have mentioned, the shiny plastic is a weird choice since it doesn't match the quality. And it would be nice to have the L and R more obvious on the outside. Put the model number on the headband and move L and R to the white highlight above the ears. The cable is solid, but it would be nice if it was a little more satisfying in the tactile department for the price. Overall I'm glad I bought these headphones. Definitely looking forward to many years of use.

When these arrived I was like they don't feel very premium, to be honest they felt kinda cheap. But holy smokes I was blown away by the sound! I paired them with my Schiit stack and the amount of detail is incredible and if I closed my eyes I could hear all these new sounds in songs I've listened to hundreds of times before. Everything is just so tight and controlled and it's a really enjoyable listening experience, it's not fatiguing like some of the other cans I have. Highly recommend to people that are putting a system together and want a well rounded set of headphones.

I tried the Sennheiser 600 and the 660, and like Goldilocks, I found the 650 to be just right. The 600 was nice but a bit soft and smoothed over. The 660 was too bright for my taste. I listen to classical music and I'm looking for clarity in all ranges, especially on the piano. The 650 sounds the most realistic , tone-wise, to me. I like the evenness as well- I rarely adjust the volume when something I am listening to has a wide dynamic range. All these headphones are very comfortable. The ear pieces do have a strong chemical odor which I am very sensitive to-I took mine out and soaked them gently in mild soap and water, then rinsed and squeezed them dry by gently pressing them on a towel. . They lost their chemical odor after they dried out, and no harm done. I think with time they might have out-gassed without doing that.

question

How is the comfort level for eyeglass wearers?
Asked by: Jon
The headphones are very comfortable on their own and can wear them for hours. But I do find them pressing on my plastic frame glasses annoying. You will feel the eyeglass stems pressing against you. If you adjust the headphones on your head if will also adjust your glasses on your nose at the same time. I do without the glasses and just enjoy the music.
