Lowel DP overview

  • 1Description

The Lowel DP-Light is a powerful workhorse to be used as a backlight or background light. Add an umbrella or diffusion for soft key or fill light. Swap to the super-spot reflector for long throws, or customize it with a variety of other accessories. The DP is built for a long, multi-use life.

This high intensity focusing flood light is supplied with a 120 VAC power cord. Change the cord or use a plug adapter to use the DP-Light anywhere in the world with the appropriate bulb.

When fitted with an (optional) FEL 1000-watt, 120-volt bulb and the supplied reflector, this fixture will emit a beam of 88 footcandles at full flood and 711 footcandles at full spot from a distance of 10' (3m). Other bulbs and plug adapters are available.

Incorporates a true focusing knob that moves the beam-angle from spot to flood.
Hand-Held Capability
A built-in, rubberized folding grip offers the user the capability to use the DP-light as a hand-held light.
Parabolic Reflector
The peened, parabolic reflector provides non-crossover beam with axial filiament orientation for improved shadow and gel life.

    Lowel DP reviews

DP Focus Flood Light (120-240 VAC) is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lowel DP Flood Light I have been using Lowel Tungsten Dps for a while now, and even though we have the LEDs available, these DP's are my ol faithful. They are rugged, durable and always deliver the results I'm looking for. I will continue to buy a few more just to have in the kit as my shoots continue to demand more light, and also make great rentals. Yes they get hot, as all lights do, unless you go the route of lite panels etc. Add an impact dimmer and you have a great versatile light. Recommend the barn doors.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from GREAT standard light for your kit! I have one of these babies in my kit. Add a dimmer and it works magic. Add a snoot ( the narrow version) and it is awesome. Add a daylight balanced glass filter and you have an HMI without spending thousands of dollars. Rugged and reliable with a great cool grip handle this is the light to buy if you can't afford an Arri. No regrets.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile Workhorse Rugged, inexpensive and simple. We've been using Lowel D and DP lights for decades. Ad ann umbrella or a softbox and you have a lovely key light. Pop in a diachroic and you've got instant daylight fill. Compact design, focusing capability, lightweight, built like a tank, and it's easy to repair. It's a great must-have light in your kit. And you can lamp it from 500-1000W. It's a great team player.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Difficult lights Seating the bulb is a stupidly diffucult task... I wasn't sure if it was in correctly, or at all. None of my lights turned on for the longest time, and then I found out the bulbs must be perfectly centered. They are very fickle... but now that they are in, I hope they stay so. The lights are very bright and look great. It's easy to set up and take down.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from inexpensive but unreliable I have three of these lights that i have used for small video shoots. they are light and easy to setup but the connection between the globe and the fixture is not good. the light will often go out when adjusting spot/flood or just when the stand is bumped. if you have time to stop shooting and attempt to reseat the globe you can often get them back up and running but for a live event where there's no going back i would not recommend this light.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good open-faced light to use w/softbox I have the Lowell DPs in all of my light kits, I use them as my key light with a Chimera softbox attached to it. Very affordable lights that can be bulbed as 1000, 750, or 500 watt lights.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product This was a great product at a very reasonable price. We had compared online with several other store and found that B&H had the best price around. It shipped in a timely matter too.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from An affordable, versatile favorite We've used these lights for video production and stills for years at our studio, and they've performed admirably. I was happy to see the newest model of this light has an improved switch, which was a weak point for the older ones (and one reason they had to be replaced). The light does give off some heat, but it's dependable, and we plan to keep using them into the future.
