Nikon 7237 overview

  • 1Description

Ideal for boaters and outdoor enthusiasts who won't let bad weather keep them inside and who require an optic that allows them to move and react quickly, the compact and durable Nikon 7x35 Action Extreme ATB Binocular will be an invaluable addition to any kit.

Its lenses push this model into the full-sized range, delivering enhanced low-light performance versus compact models, without the associated bulk or additional weight of larger ones, enabling it to be worn easily around the neck or carried without causing fatigue. To help mitigate the disorientation and discomfort often experienced when looking through binoculars on the water, the Action Extreme has a wide field of view and a comfortable exit pupil that keeps the entire scene in view and minimizes the movement of the horizon line, plus a long eye relief that provides the room to back the eyes off the eyepieces for a more comfortable viewing position. The traditional Porro prism design, BAK4 prism glass, and anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics deliver immersive high-contrast views that are bright and sharp, with accurate colors and a rich depth of field.

Complementing this optical performance are design details that allow the Action Extreme to withstand the rigors of outdoor life. The Porro prism design has an inherently balanced and comfortable feel in the hand for long-duration observation sessions, and the chassis is wrapped in a rubber armor that provides a sure and reliable grip in cold and wet weather. Its optical tubes are nitrogen filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature and environmental conditions. A tethered one-piece ocular rainguard covers the eyecups as they hang around the neck and prevents rain and spraying water from filling them, and the objective lens caps can clip onto the neck strap to keep them safe from blowing overboard or being lost on the forest floor

From the trail, to the range, to the boat, the 7x35 Action Extreme binocular is engineered to deliver the performance required by discerning observers without the bulk and weight of larger models.

Optical Performance
  • Moderate 7x magnification brings subjects in close while ensuring a wide field of view and exit pupil and minimizing the appearance of visible hand shake—essential for glassing on the water
  • 35mm objective lenses helps to ensure a smaller form factor for easier handling and carrying, while providing improved low-light performance versus smaller-objective models
  • Traditional Porro prism design makes it comfortable to hold and presents a rich depth of field that allows the user to more easily discern the relative distances between objects in the view
  • High-index BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics produce neutral and accurate color fidelity and improve contrast and image brightness
  • Wide 60° apparent angle of view provides sweeping views, with less disorientation, which is commonly felt when glassing on rough or rolling water
  • 488-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Large textured and slip-resistant center fast-focusing knob is easy to manipulate in cold or wet weather or while wearing gloves
  • Right-eye dioptric correction enables users to compensate for individual optical prescriptions for clearer views; large adjustment lever is easy to find and use
  • 56-72mm interpupillary adjustment range allows use by a wide variety of people
  • Twist-up/click-stop rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter enables hands-free use to eliminate hand shake/vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Long 17.3mm eye relief helps to reduce eyestrain and improves viewing comfort
  • Comfortable 5mm exit pupil will completely cover pupils to keep the full scene in view and limit disorientation

Nikon 7237 reviews

7x35 Action Extreme ATB Binocular is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 37.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good value Nikon has a well-deserved reputation for quality optics and the 7x35 Action Extremes do nothing to detract from it. These are sturdy, well-built binoculars with the advantages of being waterproof as well as fogproof. Their greatest strength also leads to their greatness weakness, though. The very wide field of view (9.3 degrees) gives an open, panoramic vista unavailable through most binoculars. But in optics, there are so many compromises and in this case it means these binos have some softness on the edges. The sweet spot in the center is large enough that this softness doesn't concern me and may not even be noticable to many users. Otherwise, the image is bright and clear and very fine for daytime use outdoors or for watching sporting events at a well-lit venue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from These are amazing I bought these binoculars after reading reviews on several websites, including the Cornell Ornithology Lab. They were the top ones rated in their price range, and I have been delighted with them. They are bright, easy to focus, and with a wide enough field of view to make it easy to find and follow birds. The image has a stunning 3-D quality, even with glasses. I have used them on several bird walks and others agreed that they are wonderful. At least one friend wants a pair and asked me for ordering information. These are not small or very light, but comfortable to carry. I had a bit of a struggle getting the ends of the strap through the tight loops on the case, but you only have to do that once!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product at a Great Price I bought these binoculars as a mothers' day gift for my wife. Best gift decision I ever made. She uses them to watch birds gather at feeders in our shady back yard. Light colleciton is very good and image clarity is remarkable. They are light and easy to adjust. I selected this product because it had the best reviews on the web and B&H had the best price. Win/Win.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best buy in bargain binoculars I just got these from the UPS guy yesterday and I've been using them all day to watch birds in the backyard. I am most impressed. It is very true that you can get better optical quality at a lower price with a porro prism binocular compared to a roof prism binocular. These compare favorably with other binoculars I own that cost 3-4 times as much. As such, they are 5-stars. Being porros, they are heavier and bigger than roofs but, if you don't mind the size, you can get really good optics for very little money with the Action EX. I was a bit hesitant to buy these at first since the close focus is listed at about 16 feet. I was happy to find out they actually focus to about 10 feet with my eyes. They seem to be very well built, they come with an excellent neck strap (something not universally the case with some more expensive binoculars) and they are waterproof to boot.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than expected I have 5 other binoculars, but after borrowing one like this I decided to purchase them. Clear sharp images, smooth adjustment, and great to use with glasses. Wide field of view and excellent for whale watching.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding quality, excellent value. Very solid construction and mechanical qualities for the price. The optics are very good as well. My favorite aspect of the optics is the very wide 9 field of view. However, be aware that there is a fair amount of field curvature - the image is really crisp out to about 65% of the diameter of the FOV and after that it gets a bit mushy. The outer view is clear enough for peripheral vision, but for critical views the subject needs to be near the center of the FOV. These are perfect for sporting events, as the wide FOV lets you effortlessly track the action without missing anything.I own several good binoculars but these are the ones I reach for when I want a good general purpose pair, especially if I'm carrying them around for a long time and/or if they might get banged around and/or wet. This binocular is sturdy and inexpensive enough that I just don't worry about taking them into harm's way. Yet they are small and light enough to haul around for the day. Overall you get a nice, bright, wide-angle 7x image in a sturdy and relatively inexpensive package. I'd buy them again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect for amateur nature lover Got 2 pairs of these in December prior to a cruise to Central/South America and they were perfect. Very compact for carrying around & simple to use. This is my first pair of binoculars and these exceeded in every category. They feel sturdy and rugged and worked great with or without glasses. There was one scary moment where the focus lens seemed to get stuck in one of the pairs, but we were at altitude and in the sulfur cloud of a volcano at the time (which was awesome!). Later that day when we took them out it was working fine and continued to for the rest of the trip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from really nice and easy to use bought these for a budding bird-watcher who is 12 yrs old. The view is impressive, easy to sight with their wide view and easy to use with the well-placed focus ring. Not so lightweight but not too heavy for him.
