The Nikon 10x50 Action Extreme ATB Binocular is an ideal high-power optic for boaters who often find themselves on rough or rolling sees. To help mitigate the disorientation and discomfort often experienced when looking through binoculars on the water, the Action Extreme has a wide exit pupil and field of view that keeps the entire scene in view and minimizes the movement of the horizon line, plus a long eye relief that provides the room to back the eyes off the eyepieces for a more comfortable viewing position. The traditional Porro prism design, when combined with the over-sized objective lenses, BAK4 prism glass, and anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics, delivers high-contrast views that are bright and sharp, with accurate colors, and a rich depth of field so users can differentiate the relative distance between objects in the view—even in low light.

Complementing this optical performance are design details that allow the Action Extreme to withstand the rigors of outdoor life. The Porro prism design has an inherently balanced and comfortable feel in the hand for long-duration observation sessions, and the chassis is wrapped in a rubber armor that provides a sure and reliable grip in cold and wet weather. Its optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature and environmental conditions. Because of the high magnification and large objectives, hand-holding the binocular for long periods can cause fatigue and excessive hand shake, so Nikon made it tripod mountable for easy and convenient hands-free use. A tethered one-piece ocular rainguard covers the eyecups as they hang around the neck and prevents rain and spraying water from filling them, and the object lens caps can clip onto the neck strap to keep them safe from blowing overboard or being lost on the forest floor.

From the trail, to the range, to the boat, the 10x50 Action Extreme binocular is engineered to deliver the high-power long-distance performance required by discerning observers—especially boaters and avid outdoor enthusiasts who don't let inclement weather and rough seas keep them at home or in a safe harbor.

Optical Performance
  • Powerful 10x magnification allows detailed observations of distant subjects on land and sea
  • Large 50mm objective lenses provide improved low-light performance versus smaller-objective models, ensuring images are bright even in challenging conditions
  • Traditional Porro prism design makes it comfortable to hold and presents a rich depth of field
  • High-index BAK4 prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • Anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics produce neutral and accurate color fidelity, and improve contrast and image brightness
  • Wide 60° apparent angle of view to minimize the appearance of visible hand shake and the disorientation often felt when using high-power optics on rough or rolling seas
  • 341-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Large slip-resistant center fast-focusing knob is easy to manipulate in cold or wet weather, or while wearing gloves
  • Right-eye dioptric correction enables users to compensate for individual optical prescriptions for clearer views; large adjustment lever is easy to find and use
  • 56-72mm interpupillary adjustment range allows use by a wide variety of people
  • Twist-up/click-stop rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter that enables hands-free use to eliminate hand shake/vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Long 17.2mm eye relief helps to reduce eye strain and improves viewing comfort
  • Wide 5mm exit pupil will completely cover pupils to keep the full scene in view and limit disorientation, even as pupils open and dilate in low light

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for birding, clear view I am very happy with these. I spent a lot of time researching binocs. Looked at other manufacturers and other magnifications. Decided to try these. We already had a pair of 12x50 that my husband liked. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to keep the 12s from shaking. So decided on the 10s. Glad I did. I am able to see clearly with no shake. They are not too heavy. I bought a different strap for the binocs. They really pulled on my neck when I was out for several hours birding. I got one that fits around the shoulders. Much better. I highly recommend these.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good choice for several purposes My primary purpose for these glasses will be for viewing the night sky objects. They are the size most recommended for this purpose. The 50mm (2 inch) frontlenses gather plenty of light and the 10 power magnification is adequate. Larger glasses are just to heavy to be hand-held and the field of view would be too narrow. These should be perfect for viewing comets although ISON blew apart before I ordered these. They are light enough to be carried in the field for nature walks or on a boat. I did purchase a tripod adaptor for occasional use. Optical quality is high as expected of Nikon products. I am very pleased, they are all I expected and I highly recommend them

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding binoculars I was looking for a quality binoculars with some quality lenses, the answer was that one. It feels solid and great to handle, the lens are awesome, sharp and crisp, from center to edge you will get an excellent image, like many other nikon products, the quality is flawless. The eye relief is great for the people who uses glasses. I've been using mainly for stargazing and wildlife view. I also recommend the tripod adapter, its very usefull, once the binocular is a little heavy you may get tired and start to shake your hands after a few minutes of use. For the price, you will get a marvelous binoculars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from You might need two of these Being a former deckhand on a fishing boat I've looked through my fair share of painful bino-glass. Although I've read many fine recomendation on thousand-dollar pairs of binoculars, I believe these would be hard to top--especially for the price (but you already know my bar was never that high). As for the weight complaints about these and many other porro-prism designs, I have to scratch my head. When I'm hiking and not scanning the horrizon for anything that moves I forget these are hanging around my neck. I bought the Nikon tripod mount and attach it to a monopod. I use this set-up when I climb into one of the many observation towers around the bird parks near here. I look through them without the need for my glasses, which correct for a mild astigmatism. I will soon buy a tripod to free up both hands as I've discovered to my delight that when you place a camera phone where your eye should be, with the rubber cup extended, you get amazing shots. They shame my 200mm Nikon lens. Sure, they are only 3-odd megapixels, but you can tell people that you've cheated camera companies out of thousands of dollars. The down side is that my wife wants to chuck her little binoculars into the lagoon and share mine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 10x50 Action Extreme ATB Binocular Excellent quality optics! Just the right objective lens size to weight ratio. Not too heavy for short-medium use, but might get heavy for long term use.Night use:I used these in a light polluted area and was still able to see M8 - Lagoon Nebula, M31 - Andromeda Galaxy, M13 - Great Cluster in Hercules and several other nebulae and globular clusters. While you can't resolve Saturn rings, you can see that it has a distinct oblong shape. I will be taking them on a camping trip this week and can't wait to see more in an area with less light pollution.Day use:Took them on a fishing trip and got some nice views of the coast. Vivid colors. Nice magnification.Glasses:I wear glasses. With the eye cups not twisted out I was able to use them with my glasses. However for a more immersive view I tended to use them without my glasses.Shipping:With the free expedited shipping from B&H, I ordered on a Sunday night and recieved them that Tuesday!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A solid performer Purchased mainly for birding, but with teaching some astronomy to the kids also in mind, this is a very well made pair of binoculars. The image is clear and sharp pretty much edge to edge in daylight. At night it gives a clear and undistorted image of the sky and gathers plenty of light. My other binoculars are an old pair of Zeiss Jena 7x30 which are much lighter to carry around but lack the sharp optics of the Nikon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great set of Binoculars at a great price We've had the Nikon 10x50 EX binoculars for about a week now and are enjoying them. We primaraly use them to look at the wildlife in our backyard. Their ability to focus in close, about 16 feet, to a couple hundred yards is what we needed. The semi-rigid eyecups allow me to use them with or without my glasses along with my wife, who doesn't wear glasses. Being waterproof, we don't have to worry if we leave them out on the porch overnight. The packaging was substantial and they were delivered before we expected. The No-Fault lifetime warranty is a great extra free perk!If you're looking for a well-constructed low cost set of binoculars with great optics, these are the ones to get.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good binoculars My son uses these binoculars for stargazing. They allow an amazing amount of light in and they are very clear. It can be a bit tricky to hold them steady for a long period of time so we have ordered the tripod adapter. We are very impressed with these binoculars especially for the price.
