The product has held up great since I got it. The cable makes no noise in the inside and the mounting system works nicely.

first boom. Really light.

I am not a sound guy but once in a while I need a boom for interviews. It is very light and it seems sturdy enough. Didn't have time to test on the field yet.

Well made but not for in-transit audio recording

I purchased this to record bird and nature sounds. I find it easier to hand hold my blimp than to attach it to the Boompole. The cabling exits the bottom so it tends to snag on brush. I found an external cable worked better because it exits midway up the pole and attaches to my Handy recorder there (the internal cable then needs to be secured or it hits the pole when recording). I found myself planting the Boompole on the ground to rest and that is where the XLR connections are, I gaffer taped them so it doesn't fill with snow. It is hard to adjust the length quickly if holding the Handy and the Boompole, the internal coiled cable acts like a spring and collapses the pole when you loosen the tube clamps. When moving with the Boompole the cable may rattle on the inside which is picked up by the mic. It is well made but maybe it isn't for my application.

Great boom pole, with a couple issues

because the XLR connects to the very bottom, you can not put it on the ground and rest which is a bummer. I wish the XLR connector was not right there so you could set the bottom down and wait for the next setup. I've not heard the cable rattling others complained about yet but i've only tried this indoors thus far. I hope the cable lasts that's on the inside so I just very very carefully plug in / unplug the microphone so that i minimize the cable bending wear and tear. Seems like once that thing goes the whole pole goes. Other than those caveats The spring loaded extensions and tightening rings work great for me.

Do not use this boompole outside!

As a one-man-band, I was looking for a boompole for the interviews I do for corporate videos. I knew K-TEK was a really good brand so for me it was a no-brainer. BUT, if you are doing interviews outside, you will hear the cable rumble inside the pole and it will make your audio unsuable. I repeat, do not use this boompole outside, even if there is just a little bit of wind, you will hear the cable inside the pole. This is unacceptable. The only good point is the size (which fit inside my Impact rolling bag) and how lightweight it is, that's why I gave it 2 stars instead of just one.

Perfect for solo shooters and small teams

We use this boom on an Auray Boompole holder almost exclusively. I love not needing to pack an XLR cable in addition to everything else. It's a great boom and quality cable.

Just amazing

Great boom pole, gets the job done. Wish the tightening mechanism was a little bit sturdier. Always nervous when I hoist my shotgun mic in the air, but it's held out so far, so good.

The Rycote Softie Lyre Mount with Pistol Grip (BH #RYLMPG) is a great pairing to marry the K-Tek KE-89CC Avalon Series Aluminum Boompole with Internal XLR Cable with the Sennheiser MKH 416-P48U3 Moisture-Resistant Shotgun Microphone: https://bhpho.to/3xqk0Tu

what c-stand and clamps do I need with the K-Tek KE-89CC?
Asked by: bryan
For the C-stand, you can use any model, just be sure to select one that accommodates the height you require. Any standard C-stand and boompole holder can be used. For a stand that extends 10 feet, you may like the Impact Turtle Base C-Stand - 10.75' - Chrome (B&H# IMLSCT40M). The same stand is available in different heights. For an easy to use boompole holder, consider the Auray Boompole Holder and Grip Head Kit (B&H# GBBPHK) or BoomMate Boompole Holder and Grip Head Kit (B&H# BOBPHK).

The screw at the top of my boom pole has broken off in the shock mount. Is it possible to buy a replacement top screw for this boom pole?

K-Tek does offer replacement parts for their boom poles but B&H does not have the correct part available. You should be able to get it directly through K-Tek. You can reach them by phone at 760-727-0593 or by email at [email protected] Their offices are located in Vista, California.

question

Are you able to replace the cable inside?
Asked by: Daniel
Put an XLR female (that you can get a grip on) in the bottom and rotate like any screw. Be sure to un-knot the top when taking out and putting in or it will knot up.

question

Is this compatible with the Rode VideoMic Pro Compact Shotgun Mic?
Asked by: Way T.
This pole has a 3/8 threading which will connect to the VideoMicPro shockmount, but the internal cable of the pole would not be useful to you.I would suggest the uncoiled version of this pole instead.<a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/319986-REG/K_Tek_KE_89_KE_89_Avalon_Series_Aluminum.html target= _blank >http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/319986-REG/K_Tek_KE_89_KE_89_Avalon_Series_Aluminum.html</a>You would also need an extension for the mic cable. This is a good setup if the person holding the boom will connect to a recorder on their hip or in their pocket.<a href= http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/392841-REG/Rode_VC1_Stereo_Mini_Male_to.html target= _blank >http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/392841-REG/Rode_VC1_Stereo_Mini_Male_to.html</a>
