Rycote 021801 Reviews

Windjammer for Baby Ball Gag Windshield is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does what it's supposed to Very effective for hypercardiods. Sometimes you don't want a full shotgun outside, but you still need the wind protection. The Baby Ball Gag and the windjammer provide very effective wind protection. Unfortunately the windjammer is expensive for what it is - a cloth pouch with some fake fur on the outside. The only problem with this setup is that the windscreen and windjammer add a bit of weight to your mic and makes it very front heavy. The shockmount you use for hyper might not be firm enough to support the extra weight. This isn't a slam to the product; just something to keep in mind. I'd give it 5 stars except for the price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Kick out the jams I use this with my Rycote baby ball gag and Oktava mod MK-12 condenser mic and couldn't be happier. The wind noise is completely removed. The first time I used a windjammer, I was upset because I thought it wasn't working properly. Then I realized I wasn't hearing the wind...I was hearing the leaves in the tress blowing in the wind. Amazing how much clarity you get out of this product. A+ Rycote.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Anti-breeze Wombat Used with the Rycote Baby Ball Gag Windshield over the Oktava MK-012. Fits well with a handy draw chord instead of velcro that can tend to stick to the fur. Handled wind and dialogue pop well so far. Also comes with a flip-out Rycote comb so you can stay mad styled.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rycote Windjammer for Baby Ball Gag First one I've owned so I have nothing to compare it to. But it does work nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Expensive, but does the job I needed some wind protection for my ORTF mic beyond foam wind screens. Rycote's Baby Ball Gags (BBGs) are relatively expensive, but are effective. If you need wind protection when miking, these should be considered. I have zero buyer's remorse. They come in several grommet sizes allowing substantial wind protection for mics you never though you could protect.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from When Life Gets Rough Get A Rycote As a professional location sound man I've got to admit up front that I never recommend mounting a mic on a camera. In this case, I have a Sennheiser MKH-50 on a Rycote INV-HG mkIII that pretty much lives on my SONY FS-100 camera rig to feed audio scratch track for my personal projects. I debated whether to go for the simplicity of a Rycote Classic Softie on run 'n gun shoots or to go with the Rycote Baby Ball Gag. In the end I opted for the Baby Ball Gag and the Rycote Windjammer fur to give it a slight edge in windy suppression in gusty conditions over the Classic Softie. It will never be as robust as a full Rycote Wind SuppressionSystem, but for what I'm doing it's pretty much all I need. I would give the BBG and Windjammer 5 stars if it could achieve the sonic transparency of the Cinela Leo Ball system, but life is a series of small compromises and the Rycote BBG & Windjammer is more robust and can handle the rigors of run 'n gun shoots better than the LEO.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Windjammer pretty much lives up to its name Used in conjunction with the BBG windshield, the Windjammer pretty much lives up to its name. In a recent recording at the beach here in SoCal, it performed admirably, allowing the roar of the surf to come through and not the wind. It can't stop everything, but I was quite pleased with the results.
