    Canon BP-511A reviews

    BP-511A Lithium-Ion Battery (7.4v 1390mAh) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 593.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Always stick with Canon I've used a number of third party batteries for backups before, and its always the real Canon ones that end up standing the test of time. I've purchased 4 of these to use as backups for shooting weddings and they're awesome. They continue to hold an excellent charge, and I know I'll never need to worry about running out of power during an important shoot. Not to mention they've always recharged quickly too. I definitely can't say the same thing about other non-Canon versions I've had in the past. Yes these are a little more pricey, but totally worth it for the peace of mind long term in my opinion.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Happy to get this battery! I needed a backup for the aging battery in my Canon 5D, so a while ago I bought a cheap aftermarket battery, and it failed without warning within six months. The Canon battery that came with my camera (which I bought used) has lasted five years. So I opted this time to buy the Canon BP-511A. I expect the same kind of service from this new battery as I continue to get from the original battery. It charges quick and fits the camera like a glove. The cover that protects the battery terminals is a great plus. Thanks, B&H, for stocking this item and for the quick shipment. I wish this battery were less expensive, but you do get what you pay for. Having tried cheap and gotten burned, I know I made the best purchase this time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The right battery for the camera I was reluctant to spend the cash for this Canon product, but after experiencing the shorter life of batteries from other companies, caved and bought this to add to my power supply. The life is long and the reliability is great, certainly in comparison to those others. That's important when your day is spent taking shots of those important moments in your life.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great battery! Most of our family use Canon cameras and lenses. We have tried to 'play it cheaper' in the past and bought after market batteries that are guaranteed to be the same as Canon's own. I have yet to find one that is half as good as Canon's! They may work fine at first but it sure doesn't take long before the battery doesn't hold a charge. Nothing worse then getting out to shoot and have dead batteries. If you are going to spend the money on a nice camera and a nice lens, why on earth would you take the risk of not being able to use those products because you saved $20 or so on an off brand battery? Love all my Canon batteries. Only had one that was a lemon and B&H replaced it for me quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth the Extra $ When I have bought Canon bodies, I've always bought a pair of after-market batteries ('cause they're so much cheaper)to supplement the Canon battery that comes with the body. After a bunch of years I have finally noticed (hey, I never claimed to be smart; just cute) that I've needed to replace the after-market batteries, but not the Canons. DUH. Even though the after market guys have higher milli-amp ratings, the Canons seem to last at least as long on a shoot and don't seem to need replacement anywhere near as often. Sometimes, you get what you pay for, and a bargain isn't always a bargain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Standard Canon DSLR battery A battery that costs around US$ is not cheap, but it's a small price to pay for peace of mind to use a battery made by the camera manufacturer. The BP-511 that came with my camera lasted me about 5 years, so I can't complain overall. The battery lasts quite a while between charges. It is fairly heavy but also incredibly durable with its heavy plastic casing.Photography is a casual hobby to me, so $50 seemed like a lot. But saving $10 and buying an off-brand battery wasn't worth the potential headache if there were any problems with it. For these reasons, I would recommend the Canon BP-511A.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Over 900 shots and counting. I bought a 3rd party battery once and I really mean once and it lasted about 3 months before it lost it's charge. It still cost me 20 dollars. After that I vowed not to buy generic batteries again! The brand name Canon BP-511A is a great battery. I just did a wedding for 6 hours of photography and the camera still said full charge. Now I don't own any IS lenes which will drain your battery faster. I took a little over 900 shots. You pay for what you get! And just like any generic brand sometimes it doesn't make a difference but most of the time a brand name means quality not just a name.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Reliable Battery Has No Equal I tossed my original BP-511 for the BP-511A version and have been happy ever since. No more worrying about batteries dying at a moment's notice or not fully recharging. The other thing that cannot be overstated enough is the short recycling time to charge these batteries.
