Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro AF Reviews

Works well for dSLR negative scanning

By Jeffery

I had been using a 50mm macro for dSLR negative scanning, but a longer focal length is recommended to reduce reflection (by moving the lens further from the negative). My Sony Alpha was gathering dust in my closet, so I put it to work as my default scanning camera.

I wish I could upload a photo to show how great this lens performs. A really nice feature is being able to quickly and easily go between auto focus and manual focus. Pictures are crisp, clear, and vibrant. Tampon did it right for this macro lens. Highly recommend.

I am no stranger to Tamron, as I have been using this brand for over 40 years. Of the 4 lenses I have for my Nikon, 2 are Tamron. This is one of them. It has never let me down. Currently it is mounted on a MKJZZ focus rail.

Better lens for half the money

This is effectively the SAME lens I bought for $500 a decade ago. The difference is, that lens was manual, and this one is automatic, and has a number of features my old lens lacked. Furthermore, it is at the same price: $500. But because of inflation, that means it's really half price or less. It takes very sharp pictures, seems to focus well automatically (need more experience here), and doesn't distort. It doesn't fringe. This should be a regular stock item. There is a real need for this kind of lens, and the zoom you do stock which costs less is not really a macro lens. Please consider it. (Notice the ant in the lower left area in the first photo.)

Great Macro Lens, no autofocus on EA-LA3 adapter

Very solid macro lens with good sharpness and easy to use focus controls. This lens works perfectly on a Sony a77m2 with good autofocus control. There was another review on B&H where the reviewer was using it on a Sony E mount using the EA-LA3 adapter. My current go to camera is a Sony a6300 and I have the EA-LA3. The lens works well with this combination, but what was not mentioned in the other review, is that this combination does *not* support autofocus. It's not a big deal if you are primarily using the lens for macro photography since you will likely want to use manual focus. However, if you are planning on using it as a prime telephoto and want autofocus, this is not the combination you are likely looking for.

The lens was as advertised and more. B&H delivered it quickly with no damage. I am very happy with the experience. I will be buying more from B&H

DI is comparable with VR ?

DI is comparable with VR ?
Asked by: Ayaakodan
The Di designation states that the lens optimized for a DSLR. This is a separate feature from the Vibration Reduction, which is Nikon's stabilization system in some of their lenses. A comparable lens option by Tamron with Vibration Compensation is the Tamron SP 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro 1:1 VC USD Lens for Nikon F, B&H # TA9028SPN. https://bhpho.to/30SztYT
